2024 BMW M5: All Details!
Exterior
For those who complained about the new standard 5 Series being a bit too long, you will appreciate that the new M5 is the 'right' size. Yes, it's longer than the i5 M60 xDrive, but enthusiasts will probably understand the point being made here. While the regular 5 Series measures 5175mm in length given its long-wheelbase guise, the new M5 is 5096mm long, and the i5 M60 xDrive is 5060mm long.
In terms of the design, the new M5 retains most design bits from the regular 5 Series, but there are bits to differentiate the M5 from its regular sibling. The twin kidney grille is nearly closed-off and gets gloss black treatment, along with illumination at the borders.
Other design highlights include 20-inch front and 21-inch rear M Light alloy rims, swollen arches at both ends, along with more aggressively-styled bumpers, and twin-exhaust tailpipes finished in black chrome.

Engine and Hybrid Powertrain
Things get interesting here. The new M5 comes with the 4.4-litre, twin-turbo V8 with an electric motor placed between the engine and the 8-speed automatic transmission. Together, this powertrain produces a combined 717bhp and 1000Nm of torque, with a 0-100kmph time of 3.5 seconds, while reaching a top speed of 250kmph. However, choosing the optional M Driver's Package will unleash the top speed to 305kmph.
The new M5 also gets an 18.6kWh li-ion battery pack, which supports 7.4kW charging, and it gives the car a claimed EV-only range of 69km on a single charge. Nice. The new M5 also reaches a top speed of 140kmph in electric mode.
Interior and Features
The interiors of the new M5 are based on what we have seen on the regular 5 Series, featuring the same layout and lighting panels, but with sportier bits to differentiate between the two. The M5 gets the M leather steering wheel, with red M1/M2 buttons for custom setup functions.
The interiors receive Merino leather upholstery as standard in shades of Red/Black, Kyalami Orange, Silverstone/Black and Black. It also retains the 14.9-inch curved infotainment display and the 12.3-inch digital display, but it gets M Multifunction seats which look suited to the sporty nature of this performance sedan.
It gets an M Drive Professional suite with features such as a lap timer and boost control. Some other features include adaptive M suspension with electronically-controlled dampers, rear-axle steering, three driving modes, four-zone climate control, a Bowers & Wilkins sound system, dynamic mode, cornering brake control, dynamic stability control, and active roll stabilization.
An ADAS suite also gives the M5 things such as rear collision warning, lane departure warning, active cruise control, lane change assistant, cross traffic warning, and emergency stop assistant.

Verdict
The new M5 has been due for a long time, and it has finally arrived. While it has been a controversial car globally, with polarising opinions from various people, there is no doubt on the new M5 being a standout performance sedan which now gets the benefit of a hybrid V8 powertrain.
