2024 Mercedes-Benz E-Class: What's New?
Exterior
The design of the 2024 E-Class does not see a dramatic change, but nonetheless it looks fresher and smoother than the outgoing car. The grille gets the typical tri-star pattern treatment, along with a chrome strip splitting the upper and the the lower halves. This new grille, along with the headlights give off a slight EQ vibe, and the flush fitting door handles are new as well.
From the profile, it continues to follow in the steps of the S-Class, looking more understated yet luxurious. The new E-Class gets 18-inch alloy rims as standard, and it has also grown in terms of dimensions, with the overall length having gone up by 14mm, while the wheelbase itself is now 15mm longer, now measuring 3094mm.
The rear of the E-Class has also been through a change, with a mildly redesigned tailgate and connected tail lights with a revised pattern; again, following in the footsteps of the S-Class. This is a design that might be preferred by those who want a calmer, more understated design, in comparison to the sharp and more dynamic design of the 5 Series.

2024 Mercedes-Benz E-Class: Powertrains
The 2024 E-Class comes with multiple powertrain options right from the start; the E 200 gets a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol that puts out 201bhp and 320Nm of torque. Then there is the E 220d, with the 2.0-litre diesel engine, producing 194bhp and 440Nm. However, the car maker also pulled out a surprise in the form of the E 450; the first time that India is getting one.
The E 450 is the range-topping variant, and it gets a more powerful, 3.0-litre six-cylinder petrol engine producing 375bhp, while the torque remains unspecified.
All three engines are paired to a 9-speed automatic transmission, along with a 48V mild-hybrid system. However, only the E 450 gets the 4MATIC all-wheel drive system. The E 450 also notably receives the new digital headlights which can adapt according to the weather.

Interior and Equipment
The EQ influence shows on the interiors of the new E-Class, with the presence of the Hyperscreen, featuring a 14.4-inch infotainment touch screen, the 12.3-inch instrument cluster, and an additional 12.3-inch passenger screen. Notably, the new E-Class comes with a memory automation function for the power windows, air-conditioning, and even the active brake assist.
The new E-Class also notably comes with a first-of-its-kind centre airbag, a selfie camera for video conferencing, soft-closing rear doors, a 360-degree camera, reclining rear seats with a power-adjustable underthigh support, adjustable winged headrests, a 17-speaker Burmester 4D surround sound system, voice-assisted power-retractable rear sun blinds, and 64-colour ambient lighting among other things.
The new E-Class offers a total of 8 airbags, and it has also been tested in four different countries for safety and emissions. Interestingly, it also features 99kgs of components made out of sustainable materials.
Verdict
With the debut of the new E-Class, the battle of the premium sedans now gets more interesting, with its closest rival, the BMW 5 Series having also been updated recently. The new E-Class is longer than its Bavarian rival, and also offers more engine options. It will be interesting to see how things unfold in the coming months.
