2025 MG Astor: Most Affordable In Segment With A Panoramic Sunroof

The updated MG Astor, starting at INR 9.99 lakh (ex-showroom), distinguishes itself in its class by offering a panoramic sunroof within the Rs. 12.5 lakh price range, specifically in the new Shine variant. The Select variant further elevates the offering with six airbags and Ivory Leatherette seating, prioritizing both safety and a premium interior feel. The rejig is aimed at making the Astor a worthy contender in the space, especially at a time when sales are being overshadowed by rivals from the South Korean stable. Mr. Rakesh Sen, Director of Sales and Operations at JSW MG Motor India, emphasized the Astor's appeal to trend-conscious consumers, positioning it as a vehicle that combines aspirational features with practical functionality, transforming everyday drives into memorable experiences.

The MG Astor comes with a suite of advanced technology features, including ventilated front seats, panoramic sunroof, a wireless charger, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and an auto-dimming interior rearview mirror, i-SMART 2.0 system, over 80 connected features, JIO Voice Recognition system allows for advanced voice commands, accessing information on weather, sports updates, and various other topics, digital key, and more. As for safety, you get Level-2 ADAS with 14 autonomous options.

Powertrain
The MG Astor offers two distinct powertrain options: a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated petrol engine producing 108 horsepower and 144 Nm of torque, available with either a 5-speed manual or a continuously variable transmission (CVT). For those seeking increased performance, a 1.3-liter turbo-petrol engine is also available, generating 138 horsepower and 220 Nm of torque, paired exclusively with a 6-speed automatic transmission.
Verdict
The updated MG Astor brings forward the panoramic sunroof update with the tag of being the most affordable in the segment, something that was claimed by Creta not so long ago. Another trick to offer six airbags from a lower trim adds another feather to the cap of this SUV. The updates are a part of the push that MG would like to give its ICE SUV, when the MG Windsor EV is performing pretty well in the electric space.
