Honda Jazz hatchback is likely to be discontinued the next year. This news comes after VW Polo was recently discontinued. Read the details below.
Just when the Indian hatchback market was recovering from the setback of the VW Polo being discontinued, the news reports suggest that the Honda Jazz hatchback might also go out of production by the next year i.e. 2023. According to the reports over the internet, Honda has decided to pull the plug off the Jazz after being not able to retain healthy sales figures.
Mind you, the recent fiscal year FY2022 has witnessed the biggest ever increment in the SUV segment in the Indian auto market. With SUVs cumulatively phasing out the hatchback segment with the sales numbers; manufacturers have no started to think about the future of their respective hatchback products. One such example is VW which recently stopped the manufacturing of Polo. The last batch of Polo was recently sold and the hint from top management suggests that there will not be a hatchback to replace the Polo any time soon.
Honda Jazz has been witnessing very weak sales among the segment full of competent and tech-laden rivals. For comparison, Honda sold roughly 493 Jazz per month for the last fiscal year where as Maruti Suzuki sold more than 15,000 units of Baleno hatchback per month. With rivals like Maruti Baleno, Toyota Glanza, Hyundai i20, and Tata Altroz; Jazz already feels outdated for the potential buyers. The lack of tech and no major update since its launch has kept the customers off-charts from buying it.

There have been inconspicuous rumors about Honda planning to exit India; which Honda itself have been clearing out time to time. Honda sold the Noida-based production facility in the end of year 2020 and since then a lot of such rumors have taken over the market. Now, with Jazz going out of the production; the showroom lineup will become even more less than earlier. Honda has said in the past that they intend to launch new cars in India, but the past two years have not been very fruitful to accommodate these statements.
Honda currently offers Jazz in three variants - V, VX, and ZX. Under the hood is an uber-reliable and tested 1.2-Lt, i-VTEC petrol engine which produces peak power of 89 hp and 110 Nm of peak torque. Honda offers the Jazz with a 5-speed manual and a 7-step CVT gearbox option as well. The prices currently stand between Rs 7.71 - 9.96 Lakhs ex-showroom.
