Since last year our eyes has been hooked onto the new XUV700. There's not a shred of doubt that this is the most awaited SUV in the country right now and new reports have surfaced that the Mahindra XUV700 will carry the most powerful petrol engine. Yes, at 197 bhp the power will be frugal.
Mind you, this is the same 2.0-litre, four-cylinder BS6 compliant Stallion petrol that we saw in the Thar 2020. In that 4x4, this engine churns out 148 bhp while in the XUV700, an astonishing figure of 197 bhp. This unit will be paired with a 6-speed manual as standard and an optional 6-speed automatic.
Once launched, this petrol unit will take on the likes of Hyundai Alcazar 2.0L petrol making 157 bhp/192 Nm and the 1.5L of MG Hector Plus pumping 141 bhp/250 Nm. Clearly, the mStallion here stands out with the utmost power figure, however, our main concern is its mileage. Will it be in single figures when driving in real-time? Well, time will only fill the holes.

For those diesel heads waiting then the XUV700 will be using the reliable 2.2-litre mHawk unit. This oil burner is expected to churn out 185 bhp and thus making it a powerful unit. The competition Hyundai Alcazar (113 bhp/250 Nm), Tata Safari and MG Hector Plus (168 bhp/350 Nm) really need to stay alert for the Mahindra XUV700.
With these power figures and the top of the line features that Mahindra is claiming in the XUV700, does it really targets the buyers of Alcazar, Safari and Hector Plus or it is making its own segment? Features like the largest panoramic sunroof and the ADAS (advanced driver assistance system) with Level 1 autonomous technology, XUV700 has some people interested.
Some reports on the internet also suggest that the upcoming Mahindra XUV700 will be coming with an AWD set-up as an option. However, this is yet to be confirmed by the Mahindra officials itself and even if it comes then the set-up will be strictly focused on the top-spec variant.

Sharing some details on the design front then the XUV700 will be more aggressive from the front with sharp cuts and creases. Similarly, the side profile will see larger alloy wheels and the flush door handles that we have seen in the Range Rover Velar. The cabin too is well equipped with leatherette upholstery, dual-screen set-up, dual-zone climate control (expected), multiple drive modes and others.
