Bajaj Chetak To Adopt New Nomenclature
In early June, Bajaj Auto introduced the latest addition to its Chetak electric scooter lineup, the Blue Line 2901, positioned as the most affordable variant at Rs 95,998, this model sparked significant interest, particularly regarding the significance of the new suffix. Bajaj has now clarified that this new naming convention will extend to other Chetak variants in the future. Upcoming models, such as the flagship Chetak Premium, will soon adopt the Blue Line designation, with the Premium model set to be renamed the Chetak Blue Line 3201.
Bajaj has clarified that the 'Blue Line' designation signifies that these scooters are all based on the original electric Chetak platform introduced in 2019. Moving forward, all derivatives from this platform will carry the Blue Line suffix. Regarding the numeric suffix, such as in the Chetak Blue Line 2901, the first two digits denote the battery capacity (2.9 kWh), while the last two digits indicate the variant level (01). The upcoming Chetak Premium, set to be renamed the Blue Line 3201 due to its 3.2 kWh battery, suggests that the mid-spec Chetak Urbane could potentially adopt the Blue Line 2902 moniker.
However, going by this logic, the name should have been Blue Line 3203, where the first 2 digits denote the 3.2 kWh battery, while the 03 would suggest its top-tier trim level. However, online sources mention it to be Blue Line 3901, which is a mistype or the actual nomenclature remains to be seen. Let's wait for what it ultimately turns out when the official announcements are out.

Verdict
The new nomenclature at first feels a bit too technical, but once you get to know the logic behind it, you will find it to be simpler and more self explanatory than the earlier monikers. However, it remains to be seen when the brand makes the official switch to this new system.
