Bajaj CNG Bike: Design, Features, Engine, Price

Going by its looks, the design of the CNG bike looks very commuter-friendly. The upright seating position is visible as the rider seems relaxed on it. The tubular handlebar and footpegs position for the rider are settled for an easy riding posture. Moreover, the design traits include a round headlight, a long seat, a differently styled fuel tank, a raised rear section, and a big tyre hugger. The upswept exhaust can have chrome garnishing over it. The rest of the engine and mechanical components are matte-black. Hardware will include 17-inch alloy wheels, a disc-drum brake setup, a telescopic front suspension, and a monoshock at the rear.

Now, we've already predicted that Bajaj will introduce two variants of it. One, that is seen here, will be a more road-centric and city-oriented version. Meanwhile, the other variant will get rugged treatment like knuckle guards, fork gaitor kit, flyscreen and a few other changes to make it feasible for rough roads. However, both of these variants will get a similar platform but the subtle changes will differentiate their use and also the markets they'll target.

The most important question is its engine capacity. While the details have been kept a secret till now, Mr Rajiv Bajaj himself has hinted that it'll get a capacity between 110-125cc. The aim is to beat the petrol bikes of this commuter segment like the Honda Shine, TVS Raider 125, and Hero Glamour Xtec. Hence, we suspect that it'll get a 125cc powertrain. The fuel system will include a 5-7 kg CNG tank and a smaller, probably 1-2 litres of petrol tank, for emergencies.

There were online rumours that this bike could be badged 'Bruzer' but we suspect that it is not going to happen. Bajaj will pull another name from its patent closet to mark this exciting new journey for the CNG bike. The pricing, however, will be somewhere around Rs 90,000, catering for the typical Bajaj aggressive pricing strategy.

Verdict

The expectations are high from this Bajaj motorcycle. It'll not just be the first Bajaj bike to do so but also the first-ever in the world to get a CNG-petrol powertrain. The interesting thing would be to see how the 'janta' of India perceives it when it gets launched on July 5. For more details and updates about this CNG model, stay tuned to 91Wheels.
