Bajaj CNG Bike Name 'Freedom 125'?
As per the official Bajaj website, a new motorcycle name has been added. This new 'Freedom 125' name can be seen in one of the drop-down menus on Bajaj's official website. The CNG bike is destined to launch tomorrow in India, and the addition of this name confirms that it will be called 'Freedom 125'. We think this name suits it better than the previously rumoured name 'Bruzer' because it'll give freedom to the new buyers of the world's first CNG motorcycle. This freedom will be the option to use two fuels, as per the requirement.
Bajaj CNG Bike: Design and Features
The design of the CNG bike is going to be a bit different than the usual commuter bikes. Although, it'll be a commuter bike itself, its design highlights will include a small fuel tank with a large single seat, circular headlight, telescopic suspension with covers, and a big rear tyre hugger along with a tubular pillion grab rail. Bajaj will expectedly debut it in two variants - one with a city-centric design and the other with a rugged design for rural area users.
These two variants have already been spotted on the test. The city-oriented variant is likely to be a base variant that'll get basic equipment and design. However, the rugged variant will get equipment like a flyscreen, knuckle guards, engine sump guards, etc. Both of these variants will be essentially identical, technically as well as feature-wise.
Speaking of features, Bajaj is likely to offer a halogen headlight (for base variant), and an LED headlight (for top-spec). Also, the instrument console is suspected to be an LCD screen, similar to the latest update on the Pulsar N150. If so, it'll support Bluetooth connectivity, step-by-step navigation, and other crucial info. Bajaj has also teased a switch that helps in switching over petrol & CNG on the go.
Engine, Gearbox, Hardware
The most interesting part of this bike is going to be its powertrain. Bajaj has managed to keep the specifications a secret till now, but, online rumours are that it is powered by a 125cc engine. We also assume the same, as a 100-110cc CNG engine would not make the required amount of punch. Additionally, it'll get a 5-speed transmission, as suspected, which will further enhance its range. The whole point of a CNG engine is better range and fuel economy, hence, it is powered by a bi-fuel engine.
Bajaj will offer two fuel tanks on it, a CNG tank which will act as a primary fuel source, and a small petrol tank which will act as an emergency fuel source. The expected power output from this engine could be anywhere between 8-9 bhp.
The spy photos leaked multiple times online, show that it'll come equipped with 17-inch alloy wheels, a disc-drum brake setup (possibly with a combined braking system), a telescopic front suspension, dual-shockers at the rear, etc.
Price and Rivals
Bajaj is known to offer its new products at an aggressive introductory price. However, the CNG bike will create a new niche, hence, Bajaj is not under pressure to keep the pricing very aggressive. We assume that the CNG bike is going to be positioned around the Rs 1 lakh mark. As it is the first CNG bike in the world, it doesn't have any direct rivals. But, popular commuter bikes like the Honda Shine, Hero Glamour Xtec, and TVS Raider 125, will be on its hit list of competitors.
