Bajaj has finally launched its most anticipated motorcycle of 2024. Making it the world's first, the Bajaj Freedom 125 CNG bike has debuted at a price of Rs 95,000. It uses a hybrid mixture of petrol and CNG to generate a riding range of more than 330 km. We explain its fuel economy in the CNG mode and in the petrol mode, below. Bajaj launched the Freedom 125 on July 5, creating a hiatus in the Indian two-wheeler industry. It is the first-ever motorcycle that uses a hybrid fuel system, including a CNG and petrol mixture. The Freedom 125 uses a 2-litre petrol tank and a 2 kg CNG fuel tank to generate power. As per Bajaj, the bike can deliver a claimed 65 kmpl of fuel economy in petrol mode, delivering a range of 140 km (claimed) only on petrol. Additionally, it can deliver 101 km of range in pure CNG mode, hence delivering a total range of 202 km in pure CNG. Therefore, the total range of is well above 330 km, if the bike uses both fuel options.

Not just that, but, Bajaj also claimed that the bike delivered much higher figures in internal testing. However, the company is bound due to legal terms to claim or release those figures. The 125cc hybrid engine of Freedom generates a peak power of 9.5PS and a peak torque of 9.7Nm. This power is delivered to the rear wheel via a 5-speed transmission. Bajaj is offering the Freedom 125 in three variants - a Drum, a Dum with LED headlight, and a Disc with LED headlight. These variants are priced between Rs 95,000 and 1.10 lakh (ex-showroom, Maharashtra). Initially, the Freedom 125 is going to be only available in Gujarat and Maharashtra markets. Some popular rivals of it include the Honda Shine, Hero Glamour Xtec, and TVS Raider 125.

Verdict

Bajaj's CNG bike is deemed to be a revolutionary product in the two-wheeler industry. No other manufacturer has been able to create a successful hybrid two-wheeler, until now. However, Bajaj is taking it step-by-step, as the bike will be initially sold only in the two markets. The aim is to slowly learn and improvise with the feedback received from customers.
