BMW iX1 Long Wheelbase: More Space, Familiar Face
The BMW iX1 as seen at the event gets the same sharp and aggressive front look with a dual chamber kidney grille at front and the sharp LED headlamps giving it that edgy persona. While it gets LED lighting all around with the tail lamps as well, the bumpers are angular and compliment the overall look. While it looks like the typical iX1 at its core, it's the longer wheelbase that is the star of all of it. With the same width at _____, the LWB version is longer by 116mm at 4616mm where the wheelbase is extended by 112mm to now a longer length at 2800mm. This results in more comfort and better space for the occupants, which elevates the driving experience to a whole new level.
The German automaker is known for luxurious rides and the iX1 is no different. It comes with plenty of drool-worthy tech including features starting with a Driver's Windscreen Curved display that includes a 10.25 inch instrument cluster coupled with a 10.7-inch infotainment display with a range of features. Moving further, it gets a panoramic sunroof, dual-zone climate control, reclining second-row seats of up to 28.5 degrees with a 40:20:40 split flexibility, Harman Kardon 12 speaker set-up, and much more. Battery And Range Details
The BMW iX1 comes with a sole 66.4 kWh battery pack that claims a MIDC range of 531 km on a single charge. While the range is pretty good for its class, the power is also on the punchy side with the electric motor churning out a sweet 204 hp with 250 Nm of peak torque where it clocks 0-100 kmph in just 8.6 seconds. Juicing up through an AC charger is limited to just 11kW, the DC fast charger is capable of up to 130 kW, which should get you enough juice for long rides, pretty quickly.
Verdict
The longer wheelbase is something that adds a lot of character to the model and while it may not translate much into any significant visual disconnect, it sure adds very usable real estate inside the cabin. Apart from that, it is your usual iX1 that has its separate fanbase of those who conect to the heritage of the brand and are looking for their sustainable and quick ride.
