Citroen Basalt- The C3X Gets A Name
Putting the speculations and the spy shot spree to rest, the Citroen Basalt is making its global debut on March 27. The Basalt is nothing but the christening of the C3X that we have spotted on multiple occasions. For the reveal, only the exterior will be pulled out of the curtains while the interiors come out at a later date as confirmed by the brand.
The Citroen Basalt will be positioned slightly higher than the Citroen C3 Aircross and will directly rival the upcoming Tata Curvv. In terms of its defining element, it gets a coupe SUV stance with a sloping roofline, which will be a whole new category in the Indian market. While the styling is not something that we haven't seen in the past, the price point that it enters will be a first in India. Moreover, it will share some components, body panels, and mechanics with C3 Aircross.
The previous models of Citroen had one criticism and that was the omission of features. While you cannot complain much considering the price point that it was introduced at, it is changing for good with the Basalt. You will get a richer tech list than the C3 Aircross. Expect features like a 360-degree camera, automatic climate control, cruise control, wireless charging, digital instrument cluster, ventilated seats, and more.

Powertrain: The Heart And Soul Of C3 Aircross
Mechanically, it shares the exact unit with the C3 Aircross. You will get a sole 1.2-litre petrol engine. The engine comes mated to either a manual or an automatic gearbox with power figures of 110hp and a peak torque of 210 Nm. There is soon going to be an EV based on the Basalt, but that is still some time away in the future.
Verdict
The new design philososhy is a dire need in the Indian market. The shift towards compact SUVs witnessed a lot of contenders and this new styling will be a breath of fresh air. While Basalt already has a looming rival in guise of Tata Curvv, its only a matter of time to find out who hits the market first.
