Force Gurkha 5 Door Teased: Big On Size
Going by the previous spy shots, you will get distinct styling elements on the outside, obviously apart from the big size. You will get a squared-off headlamp design along with a big 2-slat black grille. The alloys are now bigger in size by 2 inches at 18 inches. Interestingly, the 3-door version comes with inch alloy wheels. You can see a top rack and a snorkel in the teaser image, something that is carried over from the 3-doored variant. The front and rear bumpers look ready to impart a fresh bottom outline to the rugged off-roader.
In a previously spied shot, the interior showcases a 3-spoke steering wheel with an analogue instrument cluster keeping the retro rugged charm preserved. However, you do get a touchscreen infotainment screen along with circular ac vents, and leather seat upholstery. The equipment list remains basic from what is seen from the images, while we need to wait till the official reveal of the final package.
Powertrain
The Gurkha 3 door is powered by a 2.6 litre diesel engine that puts out 90bhp power along with a peak torque of 250 Nm. We expect the same to make its way with this upcoming SUV, albeit with a little re-tuning for higher power figures. The unit comes mated to a sole 5-speed manual transmission. You get a 4WD system coupled with a higher ground clearance for tackling any challenging terrain.
While with no direct rival at present, it will be challenged by the Maruti Jimny. Upcoming Thar 5 door will be its another arch-rival when launched.
Verdict
The 5 door Gurkha will less likely add much on to the already excellent off-road prowess, but it take away its Achilles heel that continued to haunt all the enthusiasts. The 2 extra doors will finally help it to increase its adoption among the Indian families. When you want the best of both worlds, extra doors save the day.
