The Harley Dviddson Sportster S becomes the first motorcycle in the country to go through an endurance test and complete it successfully.
This team of five riders put the Harley Davidson Sportster S through an endurance test. The riders included National Racers Ms. Anushriya Gulati and Mr. Vijay Singh, the editor of Powerdrift - Mr. Shubhabrata Marmar, and Mr. Malo Le Masson and Mr. Vijay Thomas from Hero Motocorp. The endurance test was conducted at the 1.74 kilometers long oval high-speed track at the Global Centre for Innovation and Technology (CIT), in Jaipur under the supervision of David Lopez Cordoba, the head of Chassis Functional Development & National Racing Program, and Alex Busquets, the Head of Vehicle Validation.
The event started at 3 pm on February 5th, 2022, and after 3141 kms later the team had clocked in an average of 130.9 km/hr of speed. In between, there were 31 pitstops for fuel refill, rider change, and fresh pair of tires after every 1000 kms.
Speaking on the successful completion of the event, Mr. Ravi Avalur, Head of Harley-Davidson Business unit at Hero Motocorp said how a recent trip to the unpaved motorable roads of the world with the Pan America inspired the event. The team at CIT and Hero MotoSports Team Rally stepped in with all their experience and helped us complete this extremely challenging attempt. It is a strong testament to the quality of this H-D motorcycle to have successfully endured the test and gone further than any other motorcycle in the country in 24 hours, he added.
The Harley Davidson Sportster S is one of the most advanced cruisers from the American motorcycle company. It comes equipped with H-Ds Revolution Max-engine that is also found in the Pan America 1250. This mill produces 30 hp less in Sportster at 121 hp, but the torque remains the same at 114 Nm. This modern engine comes mated to a 6-speed gearbox, with slipper clutch-assist. In addition, the Sportster S also uses a six-axis inertial measurement unit that works in tandem with the traction control system. Aside from that, theres also Cornering Enhanced Anti-Lock braking system which measures the lean angle of the motorcycle and keeps the control under check thereby. Besides, the Sportster S also comes with four ride modes Road, Sport, Rain, and Custom.
Besides the modern engine, the Sportster S is quite the technologically advanced motorcycle as well. For it also equips a 4.0-inch TFT screen that gets Bluetooth connectivity options and displays Navigation and much more. Braking duties are handled by 320 mm dual discs with four pistons Brembo calipers at the front, and 260 mm with two-piston Brembo calipers at the rear. Since the Sportster S uses the engine as a stress member, it eliminates the need for a conventional frame. Meanwhile, suspension duties are handled by fully-adjustable USD forks at the front, and mono-shock at the rear.
Prices for the Harley Davidson Sportster S in India start from Rs. 15.51 lakhs, and it is available in three colors Vivid Black, Stone Washed White Pearl, and Midnight Crimson.
