Harley-Davidson X440 - Design & Features
The newly launched X440 has become the most-affordable Harley-Davidson in India. It is available in three variants which are priced from Rs 2.29 lakh to Rs 2.69 lakh. The three variants are as follows: Denim (Rs 2.29 lakh), Vivid (Rs 2.49 lakh), & S (Rs 2.69 lakh). The design of it is that of a roadster bike. It is distinctive in terms of outlook as no Harley has ever been designed like this. However, the overall looks of it do interpret the touring heritage of the company. Meanwhile, it'll be manufactured by Hero MotoCorp and the development has also been done with the assistance of Hero. The main aspect is its features list which includes a very interesting plethora of standard features. These are as follows:
- LED lighting all-around
- Auto-headlamp illumination is standard across all the variants.
- Gets a neo-retro design like a round headlight, a round taillight, round indicators, etc.
- The riding posture is set upright with a tubular handlebar and centre-set rider footrests.
- A single-pod digital instrument panel is equipped with information displays like a trip meter, odometer, speedometer, AFE, real-time mileage, Bluetooth connectivity for phones, turn-by-turn Navigation, message alerts, & 3.0 USB charging ports as well.
- Safety features include a dual-channel ABS & a traction control system.
Variants
It is available in three variants. These include:
Denim - Features spoke rims, single-tone colour options, & blacked-out engine fins.
Vivid - Additionally to the Denim, it gets alloy wheels & dual-tone colour options
S - The top-spec of the X440 gets diamond-cut alloy wheels, premium colour shade options with 3D graphics on the fuel tank, machined fins, & Bluetooth connectivity (including the Navigation etc.).
Engine & Hardware
The most interesting bit of the X440 is its engine. As it will be made with the collab of Hero, it gets a single-cylinder 440cc, 2-valve, air/oil-cooled engine. This engine makes a peak power of 27.4 PS and a peak torque of 38 Nm. This power is mated via a 6-speed gearbox that also has the assistance of a slipper clutch. However, the interesting part is that this engine generates its peak torque value at just 2,000 rpm. This means that the mid-range of it is going to be very lucrative and usable on Indian roads. Additionally, the front suspension of it is a 43mm KYB USD unit while the rear gets preload-adjustable twin shockers. The kerb weight of its is only 190.5 kg and the seat height is set at 805mm. Meanwhile, the 13.5-lt of fuel tank capacity will offer a practical riding range and the 170mm of ground clearance will also help tackle the rough roads easily.
Verdict
Harley-Davidson & Hero MotoCorp have definitely surprised the segment with the pricing of the X440. However, it still has to figure out a way around some of the best-selling models like the Royal Enfield Classic 350 & the Bajaj-Triumph Speed 400.
