Honda Activa Electric: What To Expect?
The teaser shown by Honda leaves a lot to the viewer's imagination, and it is quite to difficult to tell what to expect in terms of styling. We believe it could leverage the familiarity of the regular Activa, with futuristic bits here and there; something similar to the TVS iQube, for example.
Honda will most likely position the Activa Electric as an affordable, mass-market scooter, instead of going the premium way like Ather, Ola, and to some extent, Bajaj. What could make things interesting is if the Activa Electric features a metal body, similar to the ICE Activa. This would make it the second only electric scooter with a metal body after the Chetak Electric.
Details about the powertrain and the battery packs remain scarce for now, but Honda has previously said that the Activa Electric will be on par with petrol-powered 110cc scooters in terms of performance. As for range, we can expect Honda to target the 100-110km threshold. The two-wheeler maker has not said anything about battery packs yet, and it is hard to discount the possibility of removable battery packs. Why? The answer lies below.
Sometime last year, Honda had confirmed two electric scooters for India on an all-new 'Platform E', which is dedicated to EVs. The Japanese two-wheeler maker had planned a fixed-battery scooter and one with a removable battery pack. It had also planned to set up 6000+ battery swapping points across the country, along with converting a few of existing workshops to cater to EVs only.
We can expect bookings for the Activa Electric to commence right at launch, with deliveries beginning take place shortly after. Stay tuned for further updates!

Verdict
The Activa Electric will mark a new beginning for Honda, as it enters the electric two-wheeler segment for the first time. This will also open up more possibilities for the Japanese two-wheeler maker to develop more EVs. However, for now, it remains to be seen whether the Activa Electric can match up to its petrol-powered sibling in terms of success.
