Update : We think the City Hybrid will be in showrooms by April 2022. Read more HERE
Honda has officially announced that the City Hybrid will reach the Indian roads anytime between 2022 and 2023. According to the reports, the hybrid version of the sedan will be much more fuel-efficient than the petrol-only version. It is said that this version will give a similar mileage to that of the Malaysian and Thai specific models. It is expected to give a fuel average mileage of 27 kmpl. Meanwhile, the Thai and the Malaysian models are able to produce a mileage of 27.8 kmpl and 27.7 kmpl, respectively.
Of course, the real-world fuel mileage of a car totally depends on the driver and the driving conditions. Of late, companies have started quoting ARAI-tested fuel efficiency figures that are pretty high and too difficult for the consumer to achieve.
However, once launched, the Honda City will become the most fuel-efficient model in its segment. Honda, with its City, will offer a 1.5-litre petrol-electric hybrid powerplant that is based on the Atkinson Cycle. It churns out 98 bhp of maximum power from the petrol engine and 109 bhp with the electric motor. It produces 253 Nm of peak torque with its electric motor and 127 Nm of peak torque with the petrol engine.
The Hybrid version of the City is, of course, a tad heavier than the petrol model. Also, it has got a smaller boot of 410-litre as opposed 506-litre of the ICE version. The hybrid City will come with an electric parking brake and rear disc brakes as well.

The global-spec variant is known as the Honda City RS. It even gets ADAS-based safety systems. Honda also offers a remote engine start feature with its City Hybrid. The new model will be assembled in India, whereas the components of the car, including the hybrid powerplant, will be imported. Honda City Hybrid is expected to be launched at an aggressive price range between Rs 17.5 lakh and Rs 19 lakh.
