As the Indian government is pushing the flex fuel for the passenger vehicle segment in India, Honda Two-Wheeler has showcased the XRE 300 Rally at the 2023 Auto Expo. The purpose-built machine is currently sold in the Brazilian market and is compliant with E20-E85 flex fuel. For reference, the fuel system in India will soon move towards E20 and the two-wheeler can take up to 85% ethanol blended petrol.
Honda XRE 300 Rally: What It Looks Like?
The XRE Rally indeed looks like a rally-bred machine from all angles. The raised handlebar setup and an uplifted beak at the front portray the bike's typical adventure-like styling. The hefty body panels on the tank run all the way down to create a symmetrical stance. Towards the sides, the swept-back exhaust is the highlight, positioned quite high near the rear seat. The single-piece seat features a slightly raised position for the pillion.
Honda XRE 300 Rally: Equipment On Offer
The Honda XRE 300 sports a set of wired spoke rims shod with off-road biased tyres. The suspension setup upfront is a regular telescopic unit with a longer travel, while the rear is a mono-shock unit. Disc brakes both at the front as well as rear handles the braking duties. Apart from this, a 13.8-litre fuel tank and 159 kg kerb weight is what makes it an adventure-friendly machine.
Honda XRE 300 Rally: Powertrain
The Honda XRE 300 is powered by a flex-fuel complaint 291.7 cc engine single cylinder DOHC engine air cooled engine putting out 25.6 bhp and 27.4 Nm of peak torque. It is mated to a 5-speed gearbox.
Verdict: Honda XRE 300 is a purpose-built machine, so it is bound to have a limited market share in India. The power specs are quite underwhelming, to say the least, especially when compared to other 300cc offerings in the segment. However, an attractive price point, which is unlikely for a Honda, and the added flex-fuel compliant advantage can help the cause, if it is launched in the country.
