Hyundai Creta EV Spied Testing; Similarities And Deviations From ICE Model

Hyundai Creta EV

Hyundai appears to be taking a familiar approach with the Hyundai Creta EV's design, closely mirroring the styling of the standard, internal combustion engine (ICE) Creta. This test mule, though viewed from the rear, clearly shares design cues like the connected light bar and sleek taillights with its ICE counterpart. However, as seen with other models transitioning from ICE to EV powertrains, the Creta EV will likely feature distinct design updates. These could include a new closed grille, redesigned bumpers, and updated alloy wheels. Furthermore, the Creta EV is anticipated to utilize specialized tyres designed for electric vehicles, which should contribute to improved range and a quieter cabin, a hallmark of EVs.

The Creta EV's interior is expected to showcase several distinctive features, including a three-spoke steering wheel, a drive selector positioned near the steering column, and a redesigned center console incorporating dual cup holders. It's also likely to include controls for an electronic parking brake, cooled seats, auto-hold functionality, ADAS, and a 360-degree camera. Overall, the interior design will closely resemble that of the Creta facelift, albeit with some additional features not found in the ICE-powered trims.

Battery And Range Details

Hyundai is expected to offer the Creta EV with a choice of two battery packs: a 45 kWh option targeting a range of up to 300 km, and a larger 55-60 kWh pack aiming for approximately 500 km of range. Powering the Creta EV will likely be the same electric motor found in the base Kona Electric, producing 138 hp and 255 Nm of torque. It will rival the likes of the Tata Curvv EV, Mahindra BE 6, and the upcoming Maruti e Vitara.

Verdict

The Hyundai Creta EV is oen of the most awaited launches and there are reasons for it. The Creta nametag is now a household name in the segement, which is almost synonymous with the mid-size SUV space. Also, the buyer mindset is opening up to adopt the EVs, although an EV as a first car choice still looks a bit too much to ask for, but I definetely see that happening over the coming years. As of now, this particular electric SUV can make a big impact and give this segment, its much needed push.
