With the BS6 emission norms starting from April 1, 2020, car manufacturers are readying the engines with the new upgradation. And so is Hyundai as they silently introduced Grand i10 Nios with a BS6 diesel engine and its price is identical to that of BS4.
Hyundai Grand i10 Nios continues with the same 1.2 U2 CRDi diesel engine and came with three trims, Magna MT, Sportz AMT and Asta MT. Both Magna and Asta continue with a 5-speed manual transmission as standard and an automatic gearbox sticks with Sportz trim.
Variant | Prices |
Magna MT | Rs 6.75 lakh |
Sportz AMT | Rs 7.90 lakh |
Asta MT | Rs 8.04 lakh |
Like the BS4 price, the upgraded BS6 diesel engine of Hyundai Grand i10 Nios sets its foot at Rs 6.75 lakh for the base, Magna trim. And the top model fetches till Rs 8.04 lakh. All prices stick to ex-showroom, Delhi.
There is no change in the power figure as it continues to churn the same 74 PS and 190 Nm of peak torque. The earlier diesel engine which was BS4 compliant returned an ARAI certified efficiency of 26.2 km/l. It is not sure the efficiency has been dropped or not for the upgraded engine.

Grand i10 Nios is also available in a petrol engine with the same 1.2L capacity. This engine makes 83 bhp along with a peak torque of 114 Nm. Hyundai offers a factory-fitted CNG trim too with the petrol engine. Transmission sticks to a 5-speed manual gearbox.
For those seeking a powerful version within a budget then Hyundai also offers a 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine with the Nios. There are some design changes on the exteriors and interiors pack an all-black theme with contrast red stitching on the steering wheel, upholstery, gear knob and others.
The biggest change is the 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine which is borrowed from the Venue. To keep the costs in check, Hyundai only provides a 6-speed manual gearbox and ditches the 7-speed DCT found in Venue. This engine produces 99 bhp on tap with a maximum torque of 172 Nm.

The closest rival to the Nios is Maruti Suzuki Swift and post BS6 emission norms, we expect the sales of Nios to see a rise as it also comes with an upgraded diesel engine and factory fitted CNG option. Both of which the Swift lacks. Currently, the prices of Grand i10 Nios starts at Rs 5.05 lakh and goes up to Rs 8.04 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
