The Hyundai seems to have started working on a rugged variant of the Inster EV. The carmaker revealed the entry-level of the Inster a few months back. Since then, Hyundai has started introducing the Inster EV in some markets overseas. The brand has launched the Inster EV as the Casper EV as well. Hyundai Inster EV Rugged Variant Details

The recently spotted test mule of the Hyundai Inster EV gets similar add-ons as the Hyundai Ioniq 5 XRT variant (a rugged variant of the Ioniq 5). Getting similar design elements or add-ons suggests that it could be a rugged variant of the Inster EV. There are possibilities that Hyundai will launch this variant as the Inster XRT or the Casper EV XRT. The naming of the model could be different for various markets.

Some visible design enhancements on the Inster EV include rugged front and rear bumpers, solid body cladding on all sides, larger wheels and tyres and a unique design for alloy wheels. These design elements make the Inster look rugged and suitable for driving on broken roads.

The Inster EV is essentially an electric counterpart of the internationally available Hyundai Casper. It has been introduced as a small electric car to make urban mobility sustainable and accessible in various markets. It is based on the same platform as the Casper micro-SUV which is already on sale in Korea. Notably, the brand has made some modifications to the platform for making the Inster EV, resulting in a longer wheelbase. The platform's extension has increased the space inside the cabin.

The Hyundai Inster EV is available in two battery packs. The base/entry-level variant gets a 42 kWh battery paired with a 96hp front-mounted motor that allows the EV to go from a standstill to 100 kph in just 11.7 seconds. The 96hp variants can hit a maximum top speed of 140kmph. On the other hand, higher variants get a 49 kWh battery pack setup. It generates a maximum power output of 113hp and accelerates from 0 to 100 in 10.6 seconds. The higher variants can go up to 150 kmph at top speed.

Hyundai Inster: India Bound?

Hyundai is gearing up to launch the Creta EV to make its space in the mass market EV category in our region. There are reports or official announcements regarding the India launch of the Inster EV, but if this happens, it will come after the Creta EV launch.

Verdict

The Hyundai Inster EV, a rugged variant of the Casper EV, is being introduced with enhanced design features and two battery options offering up to 350 km range.
