Hyundai Ioniq 6

The Ioniq 6 was a highly anticipated model from Hyundai internationally and it grabbed a lot of eyeballs upon its official debut. Describes as an 'Electrified Streamliner', the four-wheeler's design gives it a very low drag coefficient of 0.21, which comes courtesy of the low nose, active air flaps at the front, wheel gap reducers, and optional slim digital side mirrors. Some of the major design elements at the rear include a wing-inspired spoiler with a winglet, a minimalistic boat tail design and an outstretching LED tail lamp accompanied by a prominent rear diffuser. The EV is equipped with over 700 Parametric Pixels in various places, such as headlamps, rear combination lamps, air vent garnishes and centre console indicators.

Inside the cabin, the Ioniq 6 is loaded with a modular touchscreen dashboard housing two 12-inch displays which work as the infotainment display and driver's instrument console. Apart from this, the overall layout is quite simple with a bridge-type centre console, providing ample storage compartments.

Under the hood, the Ioniq 6 comes in two battery pack options, a standard 53 kWh and a long-range 77.4 kWh unit. The latter paired with a dual motor AWD setup puts out 320 bhp and 605 Nm of peak torque, while the single motor option is good enough for 228 bhp and 350 Nm of peak torque. The claimed electric driving range for the standard RWD version stands at 429 kilometres, while the long-range RWD Ioniq 6 can do 614 kilometres on a single charge. However, with the AWD onboard the larger battery pack claimed output is 583 kilometres.

Verdict: Having a look at the spec sheet of the Hyundai Ioniq 6, it is quite clear that the four-wheeler will compete with luxury EVs in the Indian market. Positioned above the Ioniq 5, the electric four-door sedan will directly rival the likes of the BMW i4 along with hovering in the territory of the Volvo XC40 Recharge and Kia EV6. Showcasing the car at the 2023 Auto Expo is an indication of Hyundai's willingness to bring the EV to the country.
