We earlier brought you the news that post BS6 emission norms, Hyundai Venue will ditch the 1.4L diesel for a powerful 1.5L unit. This unit is borrowed from the Kia Seltos and will be seen on the Creta as well as next-gen Hyundai Verna.
The 1.5L BS6 diesel engine produces a whopping 115 bhp on tap but the Hyundai Venue will only get 100 bhp under the hood. This is to keep the fuel efficiency in check and also to keep the competition low from the Hyundai Creta, its own sibling.
We are not sure what's the torque output for the next-gen Venue but we expect it to stick to 220 Nm of peak torque which is similar to that of 1.4L unit. It will continue with the six-speed manual gearbox and we also expect a six-speed automatic in the near future. Although, if the latter joins the league, the prices of the Venue will increase by a bit.

Also, what's new is the adaptation of fixed geometry turbo in the diesel engine as opposed to variable geometry turbocharger (VGT) found in bigger SUVs. It'll be interesting to see if the ARAI fuel efficiency drops with the adaptation of a bigger 1.5L diesel engine. Currently, the 1.4L churns out 23.7 km/l.
When compared to its rivals, Hyundai Venue still has an underpowered diesel engine. Mahindra XUV300 leads the segment with a maximum of 117 bhp on tap and then comes the Tata Nexon at 110 bhp. Ford Ecosport and Hyundai Venue generate a similar of 100 bhp on tap.
