Kawasaki Launches KLX450R for Rs. 8,99,000, Will Come As CBU unit

The KLX450R is the flagship model in Kawasakis KLX range of purpose-built off-road motorcycles. The new model is now Rs. 50,000 expensive than the previous model.

Kawasaki has announced the launch of the 2022 KLX450R dirt bike in India. Prices will start from Rs. 8,99,000 (Rs. 50,000 more than the last iteration). Delivery will start from January 2022, and all models will be CBU. Changes to the new model are mostly restricted to its aesthetics with the inclusion of new lime-green color options, along with new decals.  Meanwhile, mechanically, the KLX450R remains the same, with some minor updates.

The KLX450R cradles on a lightweight aluminum perimeter frame with a curb mass of 126 kgs. This purpose-built off-road/dirt-bike suspends on 48 mm inverted AOS type telescopic forks, with 305 mm of suspension travel at the front; and a Uni-Track suspension with 315 mm of travel, at the rear. The front suspension gets 22-way compression and 18-way rebound damping. The rear suspensions get 22-way low speed, 2-speed, or more high-speed compression damping, alongside 22-way rebound damping, and adjustable spring preload.

Braking duties are handled by the 250 mm petal disc with dual pistons at the front, and 240 mm petal disc with single-piston at the rear. The tires are hardcore off-roader with deeper cuts. The front ones are sized at 80/100 - 21, and the rear ones are 120/90-18. The bigger wheels combined, with longer suspensions, give the KLX450R a ground clearance of 315 mm.

Mechanically, the KLX450R uses the same 449 cc engine, but for 2022, Kawasaki has tuned it for better low-end torque. The 4-valve, DOHC engine produces 56.4 hp@8500 rpm and 50 Nm of torque @7500 rpm, and it comes mated to a 5-speed transmission. Both kick-starter and electric starter are available with the KLX450R. Furthermore, theres also a digital instrument cluster that displays the speedometer, dual trip meters, odometer, and clock.  And for those occasional highway crossings in the night, the KLX450R now also gets a rear LED taillight.
