In this article, we pitch Kia Carens Mileage vs Hyundai Alcazar vs Maruti XL6 vs Mahindra XUV700.
Here, we compare both the petrol and diesel engines and share with you which of these mentioned vehicles has the highest ARAI certified fuel economy.

Kia Carens is powered by the same 1.5L non-turbo and 1.4L turbo petrol engine found in the Seltos. The ARAI certified efficiency of Kia Carens 6-speed MT is 15.7 kmpl for the 1.5L motor but the same for 1.4L sticks to 16.2 kmpl. The turbo petrol motor is not only powerful but also more fuel-efficient.
Hyundai Alcazar gets a 2.0L motor under the hood that produces 157 bhp with 192 Nm of peak torque. The mileage of Hyundai Alcazar sticks to 14.5 kmpl for the 6-speed MT and 14.2 kmpl for the AT.
On the other hand, Maruti XL6 is powered by a 1.5L naturally aspirated petrol motor only. This generates 103 bhp of power with a maximum torque of 138 Nm. It returns the highest fuel economy of 19.01 kmpl with a 5-speed MT and 17.99 with a 4-speed AT.
The petrol motor of the Mahindra XUV700 is the most powerful of the lot generating 197 bhp on tap with 380 Nm of peak torque. As of now, the ARAI certified mileage of the SUV is not out.

We've not mentioned Maruti XL6 in the table as it only comes with a petrol motor. As can be seen in the table, it is the Kia Carens that returns the highest mileage of 21.3 kmpl with the 6-speed manual transmission and 18.4 kmpl with the automatic gearbox.
Hyundai Alcazar is next with 20.4 kmpl for the MT and 18.1 kmpl for the AT. Both these cars are powered by the same diesel engine. The 1.5-litre, four-cylinder turbocharged diesel unit produces 113 bhp on tap with a peak torque of 250 Nm. This engine is also seen in several other Kia and Hyundai models.
Like petrol, Mahindra XUV700 produces the highest power and torque figures when compared with the competition. The 2.2L mHawk diesel unit is tuned to two figures - 153 bhp power/363 Nm torque for the MX Series and 182 bhp/420 Nm for the AX series. It is worth noting that the 6-speed AT is available with the AX series only as an option and in this, the peak torque is 450 Nm.

Hyundai Alcazar is priced from Rs 16.34 lakh to Rs 20.15 lakh, Maruti XL6 is priced between Rs 10.01 lakh and Rs 11.85 lakh, Mahindra XUV700 is priced from Rs 12.96 lakh to Rs 23.80 lakh. All prices stick to ex-showroom, Delhi. The prices of Kia Carens are not out yet but we expect it to be priced between Rs 15 lakh to Rs 20 lakh, ex-showroom, Delhi.
