When most companies such as Tata Motors, Mahindra and JSW MG Motor are focusing on electric vehicles. Some others like Maruti Suzuki and Honda have chosen to shift towards hybrid to achieve carbon neutrality goals. However, after analyzing the market trends and decreasing demand for electric vehicles, Mahindra also has plans to launch hybrid versions of its existing SUVs which include the Mahindra Scorpio and XUV700. XUV700 and Scorpio Hybrid
However, the government provides various incentives for EV purchases, but the combination of power and fuel efficiency that hybrids provide is unmatchable. Despite a bunch of benefits and incentives on offer, Indian customers are choosing strong hybrids over BEVs (Battery Electric Vehicles).
This is mainly because hybrid offers a stress-free driving experience without any range anxiety.While Mahindra Auto has been testing most of its upcoming EV models- XUV.e8, XUV.e8 and others. It will soon formulate strategies to make its space in the hybrid market as well. It is unclear if Mahindra will derive from some other automaker, some reports mention the Skoda's name to fulfil this requirement.
The two SUVs to receive strong hybrids at the initial stage are the XUV700 and Scorpio N. Both SUVs will be powered by a 2.0 litre turbo petrol engine. When available with hybrid powetrain, we can expect a significant increase in the power figures as well.
Shared Hybrid Tech With Skoda
The upcoming Mahindra SUV will be equipped with small electric battery that charges itself from the energy recuperation, aka regenerative braking. The battery unit will come mated to an electric motor and this setup provide an all-electric range of upto 1-1.5 kilometres. There are reports that mention that Mahindra will share its hybrid tech with the Skoda Auto Volkswagen India. So, we can expect some Skoda and Volkswagen products to be introduce with hybrid technology.

Mahindra's pivot toward hybrid SUVs like the XUV700 and Scorpio N seems like a smart move, as it caters to India's preference for strong hybrids over BEVs. The blend of fuel efficiency, power, and the elimination of range anxiety aligns well with customer needs. Partnering with Skoda for tech could further strengthen their hybrid offerings in a competitive market.
