Mahindra Thar 5-Door Details
Thar SUV has become the face of the Indian lifestyle 4X4 car. However, proud Mahindra knows that Thar's legacy is soon about to get challenged. Maruti Jimny 5-Door & Force Gurkha 5-Door are on their way. In fact, Maruti is about to launch the Jimny on 11 Jan'23 at the Indian Auto Expo. Hence, the 5-door variant of Thar has been built. Now, speaking of the spied two test models; both of the cars look production-ready. It seems that Mahindra is testing the final rounds on road ahead of debuting the 5-Door version.
By the looks of them, the models are similar to the 3-Door in terms of design. The front has the same masculine design with slated grills & round headlights. Additionally, the side profile is also largely the same except for the fact that its length of it has grown. Thanks to the addition of the middle row, the 5-Door version looks like an LWB Thar. Even the alloy wheels look similar in terms of design. However, two of the test cars were camouflaged completely hence we can not conclude what the alloy wheels will look like exactly. Even the rear profile looks largely unchanged from the current model.
Technically, the 5-Door variant will remain more or less the same as the current Thar. This means that it will continue using the 2.2-lt, m-Hawk diesel engine along with the 2.0-lt, M-Stallion turbo-petrol engine. Additionally, Mahindra will offer the 4X4 option on the top specs as well to keep Thar's true identity alive.
Verdict
As the launch is nearing, Mahindra is trying to squeeze in every opportunity to show its 5-Door Thar. The main logic is to create a buzz among enthusiasts about the new variant. Additionally, the upcoming rivals are also looking well-equipped, and hence the race to become the best has begun unofficially. If you're looking forward to buying the new 5-door variant; expect to shell out at least Rs 1-2 lakh more than the standard Thar.
