When Mahindra first launched the all-new Thar in 2020, it quickly grabbed a lot of eyeballs. So much so that the waiting period was 12 months in some cities. When Mahindra launched the all-new XUV700, the story repeated again. The waiting period was over 12 months for some of the variants. Now, fast forward to 2022, there is some good news as the waiting period for both Thar and XUV700 is now reduced.
For the XUV700 petrol, the waiting period sticks to a mere 2-3 months only for the first three variants and as for the diesel, buyers have to wait for a little over 6 months. Similarly, Mahindra Thar sees a waiting period of anywhere between 3 to 8 months, depending on the city.
Mechanically, both SUVs are powered by the same engine options - 2.0L mStallion petrol and 2.2-litre, mHawk diesel motor. However, the power and peak torque figures are different. For the Thar, the petrol generates a peak power and torque of 148 bhp and 320 Nm, respectively. The peak torque for the 6-speed MT sticks to 300 Nm.

The diesel motor belts out 128 bhp of power with a peak torque of 300 Nm. As for the XUV700 diesel, it is available in two states of tune - 153 bhp/360 Nm for the lower trims and 182 bhp/420 Nm for higher trims. This figure is for the 6-speed MT. For the 6-speed AT diesel, the peak torque sticks to 450 Nm.
For the petrol XUV700, the power and peak torque figures stick to 197 bhp and 380 Nm, respectively. Both Thar and XUV700 gets mated to a six-speed stick shift as standard and get a six-speed torque converter automatic gearbox as an option.

Mahindra Thar is priced from Rs 13.53 lakh to Rs 16.02 lakh while the XUV700 prices stick from Rs 13.18 lakh to Rs 24.58 lakh. All prices stick to ex-showroom, Delhi.
