- Possible introduction of all-wheel drive
- Design to ape the Grand Vitara, look like a proper cross-over
- Possible name could be Blaze or Flash
With just over two weeks to go for the 2023 Auto Expo where Maruti will unwrap the Jimny as well as a new sub 4m SUV, few details have now emerged about the latter. Under development for years, the (possible) Baleno based crossover's production version will be showcased on the 11th of January - alongside the Jimny. These two SUVs will kick start the Auto Expo officially.
Official Name : As per our sources, there is a strong chance that Maruti might name this sub 4m cross-over as the Blaze or Flash. The final name is still awaited and we will try to get you the update before the Expo starts.
Suzuki's All-Grip AWD : The Grand Vitara and Hyryder both use Suzuki's All-Grip AWD or all-wheel drive tech and the same might make it to the upcoming YTB Crossover as well. If this happens, it will be the most affordable AWD vehicle in India. Do note, the Jimny will be a proper 4x4, not an AWD
Design : The upcoming Blaze / Flash will look like a younger cousin of the Grand Vitara in terms of the design. This includes the front end treatment and the ground clearance on offer.
As expected, it will get a 1.2-litre petrol engine in order to enjoy small car tax benefits. And as is the case with modern day Maruti offerings, this cross over will be feature loaded. On offer will be a 360 camera, HUD, full digital console, wireless charging etc. But to keep costs in check, powered seats, seat ventilation and 6 Airbags might be left out.
Verdict: Maruti could create a new benchmark with AWD, stunning looks and high end tech with the new YTB crossover.
