Maruti Grand Vitara 7 Seater Spied On Test

Latest spy shots have emerged of what appears to be a stretched Maruti Grand Vitara undergoing testing near Maruti Suzuki's facility. This seven-seat variant, rumored to be codenamed Y17, suggests Maruti is looking to broaden its SUV offerings and the same has been in talks for some time now. A heavily camouflaged Grand Vitara prototype, clearly longer than the standard five-seater version, has been spotted. This stretched variant is expected to offer a third row of seating, making it a more practical option for larger families. Intriguingly, a test mule of the upcoming Maruti eVitara electric SUV was also seen alongside it, providing a clear size comparison. The seven-seat Grand Vitara's increased dimensions were quite apparent.

While the current Grand Vitara stretches 4,345mm in length, the upcoming seven-seat version will be noticeably longer. Maruti Suzuki will reportedly offer both six and seven-seat configurations, with the six-seater likely featuring captain's chairs for added comfort. Inside, the seven-seater Grand Vitara should boast upgraded trim, a larger infotainment display, and other enhancements compared to its five-seat counterpart. It is expected to add some more creature comfort for the second-row passengers and it will try to make it a more enjoyable experience, especially with the 6-seater variants.

Powertrain

Under the hood, the 3-row Grand Vitara is likely to carry over the existing engine options from its five-seat sibling. This means we can expect the familiar 1.5-liter K15C mild-hybrid petrol, producing 103 PS and 137 Nm of torque, paired with either a five-speed manual or a six-speed automatic transmission. The more powerful 1.5-liter three-cylinder strong-hybrid petrol, generating 116 PS and 141 Nm, and coupled with an e-CVT gearbox, should also be available.
As for its launch timeline, it should make its debut sometime around this year's festive season, rivaling the Hyundai Alcazar, Mahindra XUV700, Tata Safari, and others.
Verdict
The 7 seater Grand Vitara is a natural succesor to the exisiting model, which enjoys a pretty solid fanbase. The engine options are well-tested and widely favoured by masses owing to their fuel economy and low maintenance. The strong hybrid suit adds to the lifespan of the vehicle in the NCR region and the feature list offers a good set of features too. When launched, it will pose a greater threat to the rivals and will offer a longer list of options for buyers to choose from.
