MG Motor India recently revealed its first mid-size SUV, MG Astor. It will be available in two engine options - 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine and 1.3-litre turbo petrol engine with three gearbox options.
After the launch of its Hector in India, MG introduced an electric SUV to the Indian market in the form of the ZS EV, which has the longest range in its segment. Meanwhile, the Astor is an SUV that is based on the international-spec ZS and comes with some advanced segment-first features. One of the biggest highlights here is a personal assistant that works on Artificial Intelligence.

The MG Astor looks all set to directly compete with the likes of Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Skoda Kushaq, VW Taigun and Nissan Kicks. The upcoming SUV is expected to be launched by the first week of October 2021 with an aggressive expected price range. It is expected that the SUV will be priced between Rs 10.5 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) to Rs 17 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
The Celestial hexagonal grille at the front with a rather sport bumper and the stylish LED fog lamps just make the Astor look bolder, sharper and more aggressive than the electric ZS. At the side and the rear, the car carries an updated rear bumper with dual exhaust tips, LED taillamps whose glow pattern mimic that of the headlights, 17-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, and faux skid plates.
Inside, it is a package of first-in-segment features and tech. The 10.1-inch infotainment screen is powered by a Jio e-SIM. One even gets a panoramic sunroof, AI-based assistance, a seven-inch digital cockpit, a six-way adjustable driver seat, an automatic climate control system, leather seat upholstery, heated wing mirrors, and even an option to choose from three in-cabin themes, including two-tone Iconic Ivory, Sangria Red and Tuxedo Black.

MG, for the first time ever, has introduced Level 2 ADAS with Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keep Assist, Forward Collision Warning, Lane Departure Prevention, and Automatic Emergency Braking. It must be noted that the Gloster, which will cost a lot more than the Astor, offers only Level 1 ADAS features. Meanwhile, the Astor will be sold with two petrol engine options - MG has powered its Astor with a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine and 1.3-litre turbocharged petrol option. Both the variants are mated to a six-speed manual and a CVT while the higher-variants come with a six-speed automatic gearbox.
