Honda has launched its latest offering in the 160cc segment, the all-new Honda SP160. Positioned with a price range of Rs 1,17,500 to Rs 1,21,900, the SP160 finds its place between Honda's Unicorn and XBlade models in terms of both cost and design. It comes with a more aggressive yet balanced styling to position itself for a wider set of audience.
Let's quickly look at the details of this latest offering from Honda.
Honda SP160: Styling
The SP 160 is essentially an upgraded version of the SP 125, featuring a larger engine. Its design closely resembles the SP 125, featuring identical body panels, a V-shaped LED headlight, a slightly broader tank stance, a single-piece seat with an elevated rear section, a solitary grab rail, the side exhaust with a chrome shield, and darkened internal components. The styling somewhat reminds you of the SP 125, which is not a bad thing as it is a good-looking machine already.

Honda SP160: Engine
While it looks and feels somewhere closer to SP125, it shares the mechanics with Honda Unicorn. Powered by an air-cooled 162cc single-cylinder engine, the SP 160 delivers the same 13.5hp and 14.6Nm output as the Unicorn. This powerplant is shared with the XBlade as well, though the XBlade is tuned for slightly more power and torque. The performance figures align closely with the Pulsar P150 and Suzuki Gixxer and hence, pose as an alternative to these bikes.
Coming to its hardware, the SP 160 employs a diamond-type frame of the Unicorm, telescopic forks at the front, and a mono-shock setup at the rear for suspension. Braking responsibilities are managed by a 276mm front disc and a 220mm rear disc, complemented by a single-channel ABS system. The base model incorporates a 130mm drum brake for the rear. To top it off, it comes with 17-inch alloy wheels. The ground clearance of the SP160 stands at 177 mm, which is a decent number.
It comes in 6 colour options namely Matte Dark Blue Metallic, Pearl Spartan Red, Matte Axis Gray Metallic, Pearl Ignite Black, Matte Marvel Blue Metallic, and Pearl Deep Ground Gray.
Features
The SP 160 comes equipped with essential features, including a fully-digital LCD instrument console that displays information such as speed, odometer, fuel gauge, and gear position. Additionally, it offers convenient functionalities like an engine start/stop switch and a hazard switch, LED head and tail lamps, enhancing the overall riding experience.
Price And Rivals
The SP160 comes in two variants. The Single disc version at Rs 1.18 lakh features a 130mm rear drum brake. On the other hand, the Deluxe variant at Rs 1.22 lakh is equipped with a 220mm rear disc. Both variants come with a standard 276mm front disc brake and single-channel ABS. Its main competitors include the Yamaha FZ, Suzuki Gixxer, Pulsar P150, and TVS Apache RTR 160 2V.
Verdict
The Honda SP160 offers a balanced package in the competitive 160cc segment. With its rehashed design from the SP 125 and a peppy 162cc engine, it aims to strike a middle ground between traditional commuter styling and modern aesthetics. The equipment, engine, and its competitive pricing makes it a compelling choice for riders seeking a practical and efficient daily commuter.
