Maruti Suzuki XL6 Next-Gen Strong Hybrid Engine Details
As per online rumours, Maruti is developing an in-house strong hybrid engine. This engine is a low-cost series hybrid which is different from the Toyota-sourced parallel hybrid. Due to the low cost involved in producing it, Maruti plans to introduce it in its popular cars like Fronx and Swift in the coming years. The XL6, a premium MPV, is also expected to get this drivetrain.
The series hybrid by Maruti will use the engine as a generator and then deliver the power to the electric motor. The electric motor then drives the front wheels. Regeneration of energy is also used when the car is rolling downhill or braking. While this system is undergoing internal testing, it'll benefit the complete lineup of Maruti in the future.
The popularity of the strong hybrid car, the Maruti Grand Vitara, has created a space where the company intends to enter. With this new technology, the XL6 will be able to deliver upwards of 30 kmpl of fuel economy. Other upgrades will include a fresh design, updated cabin, added connected features, and enhanced safety as well.
Verdict
Maruti Suzuki has been benefited with the strong hybrid technology offered via the Grand Vitara. In fact, the Grand Vitara has become the best-selling SUV in the segment last month. Catering to the popularity of hybrids, introduction of a low-cost and equally efficient version will change the game for Maruti in India.
