Renault Triber AMT Vs Datsun Go Plus CVT: Spec Comparison

Update - Prices of both the Triber AMT and Go Plus CVT have been updated

Budget people movers; there is no doubt that the Datsun Go Plus was the first car to bring up this segment and it took off well initially. Packing 7 seats under 4 metres of length is a task and take a good amount of engineering and development. Datsun Go Plus was the torchbearer but arguably not the brightest owing to the lack of space and safety. Then the Renault Triber came into the picture with its distinctive looks, good space to be called a proper 7-seater MPV and it is affordable too. Renault will also launch the Triber AMT this week and hence we have prepared a spec comparison of Renault Triber AMT Vs Datsun Go Plus CVT.

Renault Triber AMT Vs Datsun Go Plus CVT : Design and Dimensions

Talking about the Triber first, it looks very fresh and unique. Renault has done a fantastic job packing all the 7 seats under 4 metres without compromising on the design. The front sports Renault's signature grille and projector headlamps which are also a great addition in the segment. The side profile doesn't look ungainly or stretched and suits the car's overall dimensions.

Coming to the Datsun Go Plus CVT, the facelift helped the Go Plus to look more appealing but it still doesn't look apart. The dimensions are more of a hatchback and the tail looks slightly out of place; we won't call it a bad looking car but Triber looks better in every way. There is one thing which the Go Plus has in its favour - 14-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels which the Triber lacks.

ModelRenault TriberDatsun Go Plus
Length3990mm3995mm
Width1739mm1636mm
Height1643mm1507mm
Wheelbase2636mm2450mm

As you can see above, despite the Go Plus having an extra 5mm length advantage, the Triber has 186mm advantage in wheelbase owing to the clever engineering of Renault which leads to a big space advantage on the inside too. The Triber also has width and height advantage over the Go Plus. It is now obvious that the Triber is the bigger and more spacious car here.

Renault Triber AMT Vs Datsun Go Plus CVT : Interiors and features

The Renault Triber gets good quality interiors and what Renault calls scratchless hard plastics. The centre gets a big 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple Car Play and AC vents are placed above that. There is a curvature where you can keep your smartphone. Having said that, the Triber is feature-packed as it offers digital instrument cluster, AC vents for all three rows, power-adjustable ORVMs, keyless entry and go, push-button start/stop, Easy fix and modular rear seats and a host of other features.

Talking about the safety features, then the Datsun Go Plus offers 2 airbags, ABS, EBD, seatbelt reminders and even VDSM (Vehicle Dynamic Stability Program) which gets a. big thumbs up from us. The Triber offers up to 4 airbags, ABS, EBD, impact sensing auto door unlock, rear parking sensors etc.

Renault Triber AMT Vs Datsun Go Plus CVT : Engine and Performance

The Renault Triber comes powered by a 1.0-litre energy series petrol engine that produces 72 PS of power and 96 Nm of torque paired with a 5-speed AMT box. Renault has used short gearing to extract the most out of this small engine which gives good performance even whilst fully packed up.

The Datsun Go Plus comes with a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine producing 76 Hp and 104 Nm of torque paired with a CVT transmission. This powertrain is carried over from the Nissan Micra and the manual variants of this engine produce lesser power. Datsun will soon launch the BS6 models of the Go and Go Plus. The Go Plus has a clear advantage here owing to more power and torque plus the blessing of a smooth CVT transmission which is always better than an AMT. However, we will jump to the conclusion once we drive them at the same time.
