Toyota Plans 2022: 'Big Leap' with A Hyundai Creta Rival, Glanza & Urban Cruiser Facelifts

Toyota Kirloskar Motors is one of the largest automotive manufacturers in the world. Having excelled in terms of trust and reliability, people hold this brand in high dignity worldwide. Talking of the Indian market, Toyota Kirloskar Motors has maintained its brand value in terms of sales volumes and after sales figures. Toyota plans 2022 as one of the most crucial years for India and has set up a master plan for the upcoming years too!

Toyota had signed a global product-sharing deal with Suzuki Motors to maintain market presence globally and focus on mutual development from a business perspective. Some of the Toyota originals currently available in the Indian market are the Fortuner and the Innova Crysta, which have been a massive success over the years. The company expects the same with its upcoming pickup truck, the Hilux, which is essentially based on the Fortuner in a more robust avatar. With the Toyota Glanza and the Toyota Urban Cruiser, which are based on Maruti Suzuki Baleno and Vitara Brezza, Toyota has managed to keep up with its market presence in the hatchback and CSUV segment.

With the initialisation of the 'Big Leap' project, Toyota Kirloskar Motors had shut down its production plant near Bengaluru around Christmas and have reopened it on 4th February. This was done to recast the production line for higher output and efficiency as the brand plans to revamp its entire passenger vehicle portfolio. Essentially, this upgrade to the assembly line has been done to make way for the production of a compact SUV (codenamed D22) to be pitched against the likes of Hyundai Creta and an MPV (codenamed 560B).

The D22 mid-size SUV is likely to be powered by Toyota's robust hybrid powertrain, which would mark its steps to move toward a more environmentally sustainable future. This mid-size SUV is expected to be unveiled in the upcoming festive season, which would help Toyota recondition its entire product portfolio on offer in India, along with the plans of releasing six new models in the near future. With a glorious start in 2022 by launching the Hilux, Toyota plans to bring the new Glanza and Urban Cruiser before the end of this year, followed by the rebadged Maruti Suzuki Ciaz and Maruti Suzuki Ertiga or XL6. However, Toyota is also looking forward to adding a crossover version of the Baleno to its lineup.

As per Toyota Kirloskar Motors, the main aim of the enterprise in future will not only be driven by sales volumes but would also be aligned towards presenting an enhanced portfolio to conquer almost all segments of customers in India. Along with India, they plan to export these new offerings abroad under the global product sharing alliance and manufacture them in their Bidadi facility in Karnataka, the womb of the Toyota Yaris sedan.
