Taking full advantage of its JV with Maruti Suzuki, Toyota Kirloskar Motors (TKM) will be soon introducing new Maruti-based models in the Indian market. Toyota's latest offering, the Innova Hycross was a highly anticipated launch and has made the Japanese brand talk of the town. Keeping up the momentum, Toyota is preparing to launch an Ertiga-based MPV and a Baleno-based (YTB) crossover in the domestic market in 2023, as learned from some latest media reports. Toyota's Baleno-Based (YTB) Crossover: Details
Maruti Suzuki Baleno-based crossover codenamed YTB is already undergoing testing and its test mule has been spotted multiple times while on test runs. The four-wheeler will be showcased at the 2023 Auto Expo and it will be based on the Baleno hatchback. Using the same Heartech platform, the crossover will sport a similar body styling, minus a raised stance, squared-off wheel arches and higher ground clearance. It is also expected to take styling cures from the Grand Vitara. Under the hood, it will be powered by a 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine.
The crossover's Toyota counterpart codenamed A15 will be largely similar to the YTB, however, the Japanese carmaker will make some design changes here and there, along with a slightly tweaked variant line-up. As per media reports, it will debut in the domestic market around the end of 2023.
Toyota's Ertiga-Based MPV: Details
In order to add a more affordable MPV to its line-up, Toyota will launch a Maruti Suzuki Ertiga-based MPV in the country. Codenamed D23, it will borrow its platform and powertrain from Ertiga, however, these will enough differentiation in exterior design. For reference, Toyota currently sells a badge-engineered version of Ertiga in a few international markets, by the name Rumion and it is based on the pre-facelifted model.
The Toyota's Ertiga-based MPV can also get a 6-seater version which will sit as a counterpart of XL6, loaded with more premium features and a higher sticker price. Rest assured, the MPV will come with a longer warranty period and it will most likely be priced higher than its Maruti twin. The launch timeline of the Ertiga-based MPV is expected to be around mid-2023.

Verdict: By launching badge-engineered twins of the Ertiga and Baleno-based (YTB) crossover will further help to expand Toyota's line-up. These new models will launch in 2023 and the manufacturing will be done by Maruti Suzuki. The brand value associated with the Toyota badge along with new styling and a longer warranty period, at a slightly higher sticker price can make a case for itself. However, we have to wait till the brand itself makes an official announcement before commenting on this further.
