Volkswagen Compact SUV Teased: Tata Nexon Rival
Volkswagen has teased its upcoming compact SUV, internally known as 'A0,' which is set to make its global debut next year. The new model is expected to be named 'Volkswagen Yeh' and will initially be showcased in Brazil. The SUV will be built on the MQB-A0 platform, the same architecture used for models like the Nivus, T-Cross, and the current-gen Polo in South America. This platform is akin to the MQB-A0-IN framework, which supports the Taigun, Virtus, Skoda Kushaq, and Slavia in India. Interstingly, this same platform will be utilsed with the Skoda Kylaq as well, which is its Skoda sister.
The Volkswagen A0 is anticipated to slot below the Taigun in Volkswagens lineup, with a wheelbase of approximately 2.5 meters. It will feature the brands latest design language, including a narrower front grille, a high-set bumper, and connected tail lamps. The SUV is also expected to sport a coupe-like roofline, however this is still not completely known. Meanwhile, Skoda has unveiled plans for the 'Kylaq,' a new SUV set to launch in India next year. Like the A0, the Skoda Kylaq will be built on the MQB-A0-IN platform and positioned beneath the Kushaq in Skodas range.
Any other details apart from the mentioned above, is not available at the moment. Information regarding specs, powertrain options, features and others will only be possible once the prototype takes shape. Moreover, Volkswagen India is still to say anything about this new product and whether they plan to introduce it in the Indian market anytime soon. However, as the market dynamics are shifting towards more compact SUVs, a Taigun's smaller sibling could be the sweet spot that VW could hit with this one.
Verdict
Gone are the days when just the big bulky SUVs were the trend and then you were straight down to the hatchbacks, sedans, and other form factors. Compact SUVs are the current hot hit and the VW could benfit a lot if they bring this one to the Indian market. And there are resons for this particular segment taking off in the Indian context, you have the compact size suited for the Indian traffic conditions, a good ground clearance, and the better fuel economy that comes with lighter weight. Although there is no official info about this from VW, I think that this will eventually make its way into our homeland as well
