Volkswagen Taigun, Virtus Facelifts Set For 2026 Launch
The Taigun SUV and Virtus sedan, introduced in 2021 and 2022 respectively, have been key models for Volkswagen. To maintain its appeal, the brand has rolled out several special editions and variants. In light of evolving market trends, Volkswagen has reassessed its strategy regarding electric vehicles. Initially targeting an all-EV lineup in India by 2028, the company now understands that the shift to electric mobility will be more gradual than anticipated. As a result, Volkswagen is set to refresh the Taigun and Virtus, while also planning to launch a new sub-4-metre compact SUV based on the upcoming Skoda Kylaq.
This is something that other brands have retracted from as well keeping in mind the EV sales numbers are dwindling and there are more challenges with the infra and shaping the mindset to shift to EVs. Nonetheless, the Facelifts for Volkswagen Taigun and Virtus will be heavy on fresh sheet metal cutouts along with revamping the feature list to meet more contemporary demands. This could very well see the introduction of level 2 ADAS as well, something that is now becoming a norm in these segments. The launch is expected by the end of 2025 or by early 2026 as per the current scoops.
Engines To Be Retained
The updated models will not be getting any tweaks to the engines that comply with the emission norms right now and can go on for some more time. The existing 1.0-liter and 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engines meet emissions regulations through 2027. As a result, the updated models are unlikely to feature any significant mechanical modifications.
Currently, the VW Taigun is priced between Rs. Rs. 10.89 to Rs. 20 lakhs ex-showroom whereas the Virtus sedan is priced between the range of Rs. 10.90 lakhs - Rs. 19.41 lakhs ex-showroom.
Verdict
The above mentioned models with their timeless design, doesn't seem out of trend or dated, but to keep the feel good factor alive and the fresh appeal for the new buyers. While these models keep getting regular updates, the mechanics have proven their mettle overtime and gel quite will with the Indian buyers, something that works in their favour.
