Since its launch in India, the Renault Kwid has registered impressive sales for the French automaker in India. Renault has been always a competitive product in the hatchback segment, rivalling the Tata Tiago, Hyundai i10, AltoK10, Maruti Suzuki S-Presso, and Citron C3. However, the competition is quite tough in the hatchback segment in the Indian auto market. Tata Tiago

Starts at Rs. 5.65 lakh (Ex-showroom)

The first contender on the list is the Tata Tiago which comes at a very competitive pricing. The Tata Tiago comes powered by a powerful 1.2-litre petrol engine which produces 95Nm torque and 86 bhp. For the transmission duties, there is a 5-speed manual and 5-speed AMT gearbox option.

In terms of features, the Tata Tiago gets amenities such as a 7-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay connectivity and Android Auto, electrically adjustable ORVMs, a rearview camera and a Harman Kardon tuned 8-speaker sound system.

Maruti Suzuki S-Presso

Starts at Rs. 4.26 lakh (Ex-showroom)

Though less loaded, the Maruti Suzuki S-Presso is a practical alternative to the Renault Kwid. It sources its power by a 1.0-litre petrol engine paired with a 5-speed manual and AMT gearbox. This setup generates 67 bhp of power and 89 Nm of torque. Also, there is a CNG version available for the hatchback that produces 57 bhp of power and 82 Nm of torque.

The Maruti S-Presso features a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment screen, front-powered windows, keyless entry and a semi-digital instrument cluster. The safety kit of the S-Presso includes dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, an Electronic Stability Programme and rear parking sensors.

Hyundai Grand i10 Nios

Starts at Rs. 5.92 lakh (Ex-showroom)

The Hyundai Grand i10 Nios is one of the top-selling hatchbacks in India. The automaker is also offering this hatchback with its dual-cylinder CNG tech. The Hyundai Grand 10 Nios is available in five variants in India- Era, Magna, Corporate, Sportz and Asta. It features a 1.2-litre petrol engine which generates 83 PS of power and 114 Nm of torque in the petrol guise and 69 PS and 95 Nm in the CNG version. Transmission options for the hatchback include a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT gearbox.

In terms of features, the Grand i10 Nios gets an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a wireless charger, automatic climate control, rear AC vents, height adjustable driver seat and push-button engine start/stop.

Maruti Celerio

Starts at Rs. 4.99 lakh (Ex-showroom)

The Maruti Celerio can also be a worthy Kwid rival when it comes to features and affordability. The Celerio hatchback is offered in four variants- LXi, VXi, ZXi and the top-end ZXi+ variant. You also get a CNG version which is based on the mid-spec VXi trim. The Maruti Celerio gets a 1.0-litre petrol engine which generates 67 PS and 89 Nm and comes paired with a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT unit. The CNG version generates lower power figures of 57 PS and 82 Nm.

On the feature front, the Maruti Celerio gets a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, manual AC, push-start/stop button and Keyless entry. In terms of safety, it gets dual front airbags, ABS with EBD and hill-hold assist. The Dream Edition of Celerio, based on the entry-level variant gets additional features such as a pioneer infotainment system, additional speakers and a 360-degree camera.

Citroen C3

Citroen C3

Starts at Rs. 6.16 lakh (Ex-showroom)

The Citroen has recently updated its C3 range, adding some must-have features to the hatchback. However, the C3 comes with a higher price tag it is a more value-for-money alternative to the Kwid hatchback. The C3 hatchback is available with two engine options- a 1.2-litre NA and a 1.2-litre turbo-charged unit. Transmission options for the Citroen C3 include a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed manual transmission for the turbo unit.

In terms of features, the Citroen C3 gets a 10.2-inch infotainment screen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, height adjustable driver seat, automatic climate control, 7-inch digital driver's display and electrically adjustable Outside Rear View Mirrors (ORVMs). On the safety front, the C3 hatchback gets 6 airbags standard, a rear camera with a parking sensor and ABS with EBD.
