However, as of now, there are a few cars under Rs 25 lakh that scored 5-star safety ratings in the crash test. Tata Punch EV

The Tata Punch EV is the most affordable EV in the list of 5-star rated EVs. It shows a resemblance to its sibling, the Nexon EV, even in terms of safety. It scored five stars on the Bharat NCAP crash test, achieving 31.46/32.00 in the Adult Occupant Protection category and 45.00/49.00 in the Child Occupant Protection category. For safety, it relies on six airbags, ABS and ESC, a rear parking camera with sensors, three-point seat belts for all seats, ISOFIX mounts, and more.
The Punch EV gets two battery options: a 25kWh battery with around 315km of range and a 35kWh battery with around 421km of range. The bigger battery pack variant makes 122 bhp and 190 Nm, while the regular variant makes 82 bhp and 114 Nm of torque. The Tata Punch EV is available with a price tag of Rs 10.99 lakh (ex-showroom) and goes up to Rs 14.49 lakh (ex-showroom) for the long-range variant.
Tata Nexon EV

The Tata Nexon EV is one of India's best-selling electric vehicles, with a 5-star safety rating in the Bharat NCAP crash tests. It secured 29.86/32.00 in Adult Occupant Protection and 44.95/49.00 in Child Occupant Protection. The credit goes to its safety features, which include six airbags, ABS and ESC as standard, front parking sensors, blind view monitor, three-point seat belts for all seats, ISOFIX anchors, hill descent and ascent control, all-wheel disc brakes, panic brake alert, as well as emergency and breakdown call assist. Meanwhile, the Tata Nexon EV is available in two variants: MR (Medium Range) and LR (Long Range).
The MR variant gets a 30kWh battery, while the LR gets a larger 40.5kWh battery pack. When it comes to the range, the MR variant delivers 325km of range, while the LR variant delivers 465 km of range. Both the variants get a 7.2kW AC charger as standard, which can top up the battery from 10 to 100 per cent in 4.3 hours for the MR and 6 hours for the LR. The Tata Nexon EV is available at a price tag of Rs 12.49 lakh (ex-showroom) and goes up Rs 17.19 lakh (ex-showroom) for the red dark edition.
Mahindra XUV 400 EV

Mahindra XUV 400 EV has garnered 5-star safety ratings in the BNCAP crash test, making it one of the safest budget EVs in the market. It scored 30.38/32.00 in Adult Occupant Protection and 43.00/49.00 in Child Occupant Protection. For safety, it relies on six airbags, a Seat Belt Warning, ABS with EBD, a Child Lock, Anchor Points for the Child Seat, an Overspeed Warning, Speed Sensing Door Lock, an Anti-theft Engine immobiliser, a Flashing Emergency Brake Light, and Central Locking. Under the hood, it is available with two battery pack options: a 34.5 kWh and 39.4 kWh battery pack. These battery packs give out a claimed range of 375km and 456 km, respectively. The EC Pro variant gets a 3.3kW AC fast charger, while the EL Pro variant gets a 7.2kW AC fast charger. This EV is available at an introductory price of Rs 15.49 lakh (ex-showroom) and goes up to Rs 17.49 lakh (ex-showroom).
Tata Curvv EV

Just like Tata's other cars, the Curvv EV has also made its entry to the 5-star EVs under Rs 25 lakh. It scored five stars on the Bharat NCAP crash test, achieving 31.46/32.00 in the Adult Occupant Protection category and 45.00/49.00 in the Child Occupant Protection category. Along with safety, the Curvv is a stylish and feature-rich coupe-SUV in the market. However, for safety, the Curvv relies on six airbags, an electronic parking brake with auto hold function, hill-start and descent assist, ESP, a driver drowsiness alert system, a blind spot monitor, and a Level 2 ADAS suite. However, the Curvv EV is powered by a 45kWh unit and a 55kWh unit. These battery packs give out a claimed range of 502km and 585 km, respectively. The Tata Curvv EV is priced at Rs 17.49 lakh (ex-showroom) and goes up to Rs 21.99 lakh (ex-showroom).
Mahindra BE 6

Mahindra's recently launched BE 6 has garnered 5-star safety ratings in the BNCAP crash test. It scored 31.97/32.00 in Adult Occupant Protection and 45.00/49.00 in Child Occupant Protection. The BE 6 is one of the most feature-loaded EVs in the market. Some of the key safety features include a Level 2 ADAS suite, 360-degree cameras, seven airbags, ABS with EBS, ESC, and much more. As for the performance, it comes equipped with two battery pack options: 59 kWh and 79 kWh units. The larger battery offers a claimed range of 682 Km and 556 km with a smaller battery pack. However, the company will provide either an 11.2kW AC charger (full charge in 8 hours for 79kWh and 6 hours for 59kWh) or a 7.3kW AC charger (full charge in 11.7 hours for 79kWh and 8.7 hours for 59kWh). The Mahindra BE 6 is priced at Rs 18.90 lakh (ex-showroom) and goes up to Rs 26.90 lakh (ex-showroom).
Mahindra XEV 9E

The Mahindra XEV 9E is the most costly among the list of 5-star rated EVs. It can be referred to as a bigger sibling of the BE 6, which comes with bigger dimensions and features. This SUV has earned 5-star safety ratings in the BNCAP crash tests, which makes it stand out with premium features and safety. This EV scored 32.00 / 32.00 for Adult 45.00/ 49.00 for Child protection. For safety, it relies on six airbags, an electronic parking brake, TPMS, Level 2 ADAS, and a driver drowsiness system. Under the hood, it is powered by a 59 kWh battery pack and a 79 kWh unit. These battery packs give out a claimed range of 542 km and 656 km, respectively, within a single charge. Mahindra claims that with a 175kW DC fast charger, the 79kWh battery can charge from 20% to 80% in just 20 minutes. Similarly, the 59kWh battery takes 20 minutes to reach 80% using a 140kW DC fast charger. The Mahindra XEV 9E is priced at Rs 21.9 lakh (ex-showroom) and goes up to Rs 30.50 lakh (ex-showroom).
