Why Is The ABS Light ON? Check All The Reasons Here!

The Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) is now a mandatory addition for all the passenger cars, and thus the system has got much effective in all these years, in terms of technology and simplicity. However, there are still some circumstances under which the ABS might not work much effectively, which thankfully will be indicated to you via the ABS warning light in the instrument console and the system will switch the ABS Light ON.

ABS Light ON

Following are the five main reasons due to which you may see the ABS Light ON in your vehicle:
1. Faulty ABS module After a certain long period of time, the ABS module in the system suffers from corrosion, primarily due to prolonged exposure to moisture in the form of water droplets. In case the ABS module gets corrosion, it might fail to receive signals from the wheel speed sensor. This might trigger a warning in the form of light.
2. Faulty wheel speed sensors The main purpose of the wheel speed sensors in the entire system is to monitor the speed of the wheel in which it is fitted, and transfer this information to the ABS module. However, if this wheel speed sensor gets corrupted, the system will get to know about it and revert back to you in the form of warning light.

3. Worn out hydraulic pump The hydraulic pump regulates the amount of brake fluid pressure in the brake system, thus determining the amount of brake force to be applied on the wheels. However, with time, the hydraulic pump of the braking system does wear out with continuous use, which will fail to develop the pressure in the brake system. This will ultimately trigger the warning of the ABS as well.
4. Lack of brake fluid If the hydraulic pump in the braking system is working fine, but there is no appropriate amount of brake fluid in the master cylinder, a desired amount of pressure cannot be transferred to the brake pads. This will result in the deficiency of the braking system and in turn, the ABS as well. The lack of brake fluid might happen due to a possible leakage in the system.

5. System check This happens primarily in those cars which employ a number of electronic systems, and in order to carry out a system check for all those, the ABS light might glow on for a few amount of time. In this case, the light will turn off immediately after the system check is carried out successfully.
