Toyota Innova Hycross is a revolutionary vehicle and has taken the legacy of the nameplate - "Innova" - to the stratosphere. Getting one is a task, as the waiting period on this vehicle is 6 to 8 months, and you'll never find any discount running on it, as the sales are just through the roof. That said, there are 7 core variants - three of the petrol powertrain and four of the petrol + hybrid - and the most selected variants in the entire lineup are the GX (O) of petrol and VX Hybrid, as both are adjacent to each other and pack a great set of features.
To add more, the difference between both is of Rs 5 lakh. So, a detailed comparison between the two would help solve a lot of questions. So start, and in the meantime, make sure to join the 91Wheels Whatsapp Channel to never miss out on automotive updates.

Price Difference

The Toyota Innova Hycross GX (O) 8-seater ex-showroom price is Rs 21.16 lakh, and for the 7-seater option, it's Rs 21.30 lakh. So, the difference is only Rs 14,000. Now, for the VX Hybrid, the asking price for the 7-seat configuration is Rs 26.31 lakh, and Rs 26.36 lakh for the 8-seater. Here, the fewer seat options mean the second row features captain seats, while the other option has full-size seats, where three people can sit.
Moreover, the price difference between the two is Rs 5.15 lakh, and that's because the VX variant comes with a petrol + hybrid powertrain, with Toyota claiming its fuel efficiency to be 23.24 km/l. That's why people are flocking to buy the hybrid versions. However, the on-road price difference between the two can vary a lot, and the true question is, do you really need the hybrid system? Let's find out below.
Features Comparison
GX (O)

The GX (O) variant is the top-of-the-line for the petrol-only powertrain of the Innova Hycross, so the features box is well-loaded. For starters, it gets 16-inch alloy wheels, dual LED automatic headlamps, rear combi lamps with LED plus reflector, and front fog lamps, also in LED. To add more, the grille is finished in gunmetal, which looks sportier than what we get in the higher models, as those come with a lot of chrome.
Talking about the interior, all the petrol-only variants get a 4.21-inch multi-information display sandwiched between the analog tachometer. For the infotainment, Toyota has done something clever. If you opt for the 7-seater version of the GX (O), you'll get a 10.1-inch infotainment display, while the 8-seater version comes with an 8-inch screen. Additionally, the larger screen offers features like wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, whereas the smaller one only supports wired connectivity. Moreover, on the steering wheel, there is no cruise control, only switches for audio, telephone, voice, and MID.

A few more features are: 4 speakers, rear sunshade (only with the 7-seater), piano black switch base, electronic parking brake with auto hold, 2 Type C sockets at the front, and 2 at the rear. These are the top features you'll get in this variant. Now, let's check how big of an upgrade the VX trim really is.
VX
This variant comes right after the GX (O), and the Petrol+Hybrid variants start from here. So, the biggest difference is the powertrain, which we will mention below, but from a features standpoint, there isn't a very substantial difference. To begin with the exterior, Toyota provides 17-inch alloy wheels with a bigger tire section of 215/60. The automatic headlamps are now tri-LED, and the tail-lights are also fully LED. Moreover, the grille now features chrome surrounds, and the front wipers come with a time-adjust setting, which is not available in the GX (O).

Talking about the infotainment screen, here we don't have the option of the bigger 10.1-inch screen, but only the 8-inch, regardless of whether you opt for the 7 or 8-seater iterations. However, surprisingly, here you get 6 speakers, whereas the GX (O) comes with 4 speakers. Additionally, cruise control is included, along with an auto-dimming IRVM. At the front, you get a Type A + Type C socket, and at the rear, there are two Type C sockets. To add more, the windshield here is a green laminated + acoustic type.
The biggest difference here is that the MID size has increased to 7 inches, and while there are still needles, the main focus is now on this screen. Other details include a leather steering wheel, blue ambient lighting, and a flat luggage board. The last thing to mention is that the VX gets paddle shifters and TPMS.
These are the differences between the two variants in terms of features, and clearly, both fall evenly as there are some features you won't get in the VX and vice versa. By this comparison, we think that the only reason to choose between the two should be because of their powertrain, as they create a world of a difference. So, let's point that out below.

Engines | Petrol | Petrol + Hybrid |

Now, the Innova Hycross Hybrid ARAI fuel efficiency is 23.24 kmpl, and the non-hybrid is around 16.13 kmpl. For people who want to achieve high mileage, going with the Hybrid is the best option, as this car in city traffic can run solely on EV mode, and during that period, it will easily give a mileage of 20+ kmpl. For those with budget limitations, the GX (O) will also be very attractive, as it gets a great set of features, and even with this, on highway journeys, one can achieve 15 to 16 kmpl of economy.

Verdict
The clear difference between the two variants lies in the fuel economy front, and one can truly save a lot of money in the long run, as the claimed fuel efficiency of the Hycross Hybrid is 23+ kmpl. Also, on the features front, they both get something better on both sides, which is quite unique, and both also make a lot of sense. To add more, in Uttar Pradesh, there is absolutely no road tax on hybrid cars, so with this, one can save up to Rs 3 lakh on the on-road price, making it an even more handsome deal. Apart from all of these stats and facts, Toyota Innova Hycross is a fantastic overall car that will make you proud of your decisions.
