If there is one compact SUV that is climbing the sales chart because of the value for money quotient, styling and features, it is the Kia Sonet. Just recently, we brought in the pictures of the Sonet with its new 'Kia' logo, however, the company has other plans and the 2021 version of the SUV comes with rejigged variants and updated features.

What are the new features?
Kia will now provide paddle shifters as well as sunshades for rear occupants right from the HTX variant. However, these features are limited to automatic transmission only.

Do the lower variants get any addition of features?
Yes, to boost more sales, several features that only came with higher variants will now debut in the mid-spec variants too.
16-inch dual-tone alloy wheels will now come as standard from the HTX variant.
Brake assist, vehicle stability management, electronic stability control, hill start assist will be standard from HTK+
The most loved feature that is an electric sunroof will be offered right from HTK+ (iMT)
HTK+ with the 1.2L option will now be offered with keyless entry. A push-button start will be offered for 1.0L petrol and 1.5L diesel for the same variant.
One can remotely start the car directly from the key fob for the HTK+ variant (1.0L petrol and 1.5L diesel)
Currently, Kia offers the Sonet in multiple powertrain options which cater to the need of several buyers. For the petrol - it gets a 1.2L naturally aspirated petrol which generates 82 bhp at 6300 RPM and a peak torque of 115 Nm at 4200 RPM. This engine gets mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox only.

The powerful 1.0L turbo petrol gets mated to a 6-speed iMT and an optional 7-speed DCT unit. This engine churns out 118 bhp with 172 Nm of peak torque. The 1.5L diesel is a detuned version of the Seltos which pumps out 99 bhp with 240 Nm of peak torque. While the top-spec GTX variant gets the 1.5L diesel churning out 115 PS with 250 Nm of power and torque output.
Currently, the prices of Kia Sonet starts from Rs 6.79 lakh and go to Rs 13.20 lakh, ex-showroom, Delhi. With the introduction of new features, we expect the prices to go up by a margin. The Sonet gives competition to Ford Ecosport, Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV300, Maruti Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Toyota Urban Cruiser, Renault Kiger and Nissan Magnite.
