2021 Mercedes S-Class Launched At Rs 2.17 Crore; 150 Units Sold Out

What is happening? I mean I am just shocked to see the huge gobbled up prices of cars these days. Mercedes has just brought in the newer 2021 S-Class at a price of Rs 2.17 crore, ex-showroom, Delhi. Along with this, out of the 300 units allotted for the Indian market, 150 has already been sold out.

The newer S-Class is offered in a single top of the line variant, Launch Edition that is based on the AMG trim level. The S400d 4Matic priced at Rs 2.19 crore while the petrol version S400Matic at Rs 2.17 crore. Currently, they are both CBU but we're hoping the local manufacture will start soon so the costs will be tamed down by a huge margin.

Sharing the mechanical details first as we're excited about the heart it packs inside at this insane price amount. The diesel one gets the 3.0-litre, six-cylinder motor that generates 325 bhp with a peak torque of 700 Nm. 0-100 kmph sprint is achieved in just 5.41 seconds.

The petrol is the same 3.0L unit that makes 362 bhp with 500 Nm of peak torque and 0-100 kmph is achieved in just 5.1 seconds. The top speed for both the models sticks to 250 kmph and the Mercedes 4Matic all-wheel-drive system sticks as standard. A 9-speed automatic is observed in both petrol and diesel model. What's interesting is the rear-axle steering that will help to manoeuvre the sedan on Indian roads.

Feature-wise, the cabin packs in a huge screen set-up(one for the centre console and another for dash), 12.8-inch for the touchscreen infotainment unit and a 12.3-inch is the digital display. This is the latest Mercedes MBUX system and packs in 16 GB RAM with 320 GB of storage. You also get 64-colour ambient lighting, a premium Burmester 4D surround sound system and front seats with massage function.

Since this is the epitome of luxury on wheels, S-Class also packs in a huge panoramic sunroof, four-zone climate control and even a blind-spot warning when a passenger is about to open a door. The rear seats have a bench-style set-up and can be reclined by 43.5 degrees while the leg support can be adjusted by 50 degrees.

Since it is the S-Class then the owners also have a choice of chauffeur package that adds rear-seat touchscreen set up, a central tablet controller that lets you control the functions inside the sedan and more. The interiors can be had in two colour schemes - Sienna Brown or Macchiato Beige Nappa leather upholstery. Of course, these also depend on the exterior colour scheme you choose.

At this price, Mercedes-Benz does not compromise with safety at all and the new S-Class gets as many as 10 airbags, adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, auto emergency braking and a side impact protection system. Well, the latter uses sensors to predict when an impact is about to happen and then raises the air suspension on that side to channel the impact on the floor bed.

The brand is offering five exterior colour options as of now - Onyx Black, Anthracite Blue, Designo Diamond White, Rubellite Red and Emerald Green. This is the regular long-wheelbase version of the S-Class and the Maybach version will come soon in the future. As of now, the V223 Mercedes S-Class targets Audi A8L and BMW 7-Series.
