2023 Honda City Testing Starts in India : Exclusive
  • 2023 City will be a minor facelift of the 5th gen model
  • Both petrol & diesel engines to continue
  • No change in price expected

Just two days back we posted an article of the 2023 Honda City being tested in Thailand and now it seems the C segment sedan is ready for evaluation on Indian roads as well. 91Wheels member Siddesh Mhatre sent us these exclusive images from Pune. The City was on a flat-bed, possibly going to or coming from ARAI (automotive research association of India). If this indeed is true, it seems Honda seems to have plans to launch the Verna, Slavia and Virtus rival pretty soon here. For those who did not know, Hyundai is also gearing up to launch the 2023 Verna in India.

2023 Honda City Price

The current 5th generation Honda City has a starting price of Rs 11.57 lakh for the petrol range and Rs 13.17 lakh, ex-showroom Delhi. As the upcoming model is not a major update but a minor facelift, prices might remain unchanged. The older 4th generation model will continue to sell alongside the facelift variant. This 4th gen City is sold with a petrol engine only and has an extremely value-for-money starting price of Rs 9.49 lakh.

2023 Honda City Engines

Though the new City will get minor design tweaks and slightly more features, the sedan will continue to use the same engines as before. This means it will get a choice of a 1.5-litre petrol motor and an equally large turbo diesel unit as well. The petrol motor will further be offered with both a manual as well as an automatic gearbox option. The diesel unit is known for being an efficient motor, delivering over 24 kmpl as per ARAI certification. Alongside the facelift 2023 City, the company will continue to sell the Hybrid model as well.

2023 Honda City Rivals

The 2023 City will sit in the 11.5 to 15.5 lakh bracket. This means it will lock horns with the upcoming 2023 Verna, Skoda's Slavia and VW's Virtus. Apart from this, it will also rub shoulders with mid-size SUVs like the Hyundai Creta, MG Astor and Kia Seltos. On the other hand, those on a budget could look at the Maruti Nexa Ciaz. Although the Ciaz is getting dated now, it still offers excellent value for money along with a spacious cabin.

Verdict : In a world full of SUVs, the 2023 City will continue to carve its own niche. Extremely spacious interiors and a comfortable drive will further add to the appeal.
