The Toyota Hilux has been one of those popular, and reliable, staple pick-up trucks in the United States. Despite its decade-long production years, the Indian market will get the Hilux pick-up for the first time next year in 2022. We have spotted the pick-up truck several times before being tested here in India. But last week, we caught glimpse of the Hilux totally undisguised, in its production form for an ad shoot in Gurugram. So information about the upcoming pick-up truck is already doing its rounds on the internet.

2022 Toyota Hilux: Platform and Design
The Toyota Hilux will be based on the same IMV-2 Platform that also underpins the Fortuner and the Innova Crysta. However, the Hilux will be longer than the SUV and the MPV. It measures 5,325 mm long and will have a 3,085 mm long wheelbase to accommodate that bed. Aside from that, it measures 1,865 mm tall and 1,855 mm wide. The ground clearance is 216 mm high, and the total weight is rated at 2.1 tonnes.

On the design front, the Hilux boasts a distinctly strong and sturdy body design. The front fascia will be largely dominated by the hexagonal grille accompanied by swept-back headlamps with LED DRLs. Dark and rugged body claddings on the wheel arches extend into the front grille, as well. The body style will ooze of a lot of strength, and given its established reputation for being the indestructible truck, the 2022 Toyota Hilux will surely have a solid build quality.
2022 Toyota Hilux: Engine
The Toyota Hilux in India will be available with two diesel engine options. Theres the 2.4-liter unit that is borrowed from the Innova Crysta. It produces 150 Ps and 360 Nm of torque, and it comes mated to a 6-speed torque converter or 5-speed manual gearbox, sending power to the rear wheels.
Then theres the 2.8-liter diesel unit that is borrowed from the Fortuner. This mill puts out 204 Ps and 500 Nm of torque. It comes mated to either a 6-speed torque converter or a 6-speed manual gearbox, attached to either a rear-wheel-drive setup or four-wheel drive set-up. However, this is yet to be officially confirmed.
2022 Toyota Hilux: Interior and Features
The Toyota Hilux will feature a familiar interior with lots of components that are carried over from the Fortuner. So, you can expect the same steering wheel but the familiar dashboard will have some distinguishing updates. The infotainment touch screen, instrument cluster, gear lever, door pads, etc, will also remain the same.

Feature-wise, the Hilux is expected to come loaded. It will include, auto-climate control, push-button start, auto-dimming IRVM, ambient lighting, and Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto, etc.
On the safety front, the Hilux is expected to offer ABS, EBD, Traction control, Vehicle Stability Control, Hill Start Assist, Speed Warnings, and Seat-Belt reminders. Toyota has not compromised on this front, and the Tai-spec Hilux scored a full Five-Star Safety Ratings at the ASEAN NCAP crash test.
2022 Toyota Hilux: Price and Launch Date
The Toyota Hilux will likely be priced between Rs. 25.00 lakh- Rs. 30.00 lakh. It is expected to launch in January 2022. The exact date is yet to be confirmed.
2022 Toyota Hilux: Competiton
The Toyota Hilux does not have much competition in the Indian market, except for the Isuzu D-Max V-Cross. The most popular private pick-up in India from Isuzu is currently available in three variants: Standard, High, and the newly-launched Z-Prestige edition. Prices range between Rs. 15.51 lakh to Rs. 19.99 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi)
