But before we proceed, we are just listing out on the current mid-size SUVs which are cheapest to buy and are available in BS6 norms
Renault Duster
Engine - 1.5L Petrol
Power - 105 bhp and 142 Nm
Prices - Rs 8.59 - Rs 9.99 lakh
Renault Duster is one of the cheapest BS6 compliant mid-size SUVs available in the market right now. It only comes in a sole 1.5L petrol engine and the dear old 1.5L diesel has been discontinued. The prices of the BS6 compliant petrol Duster are up by Rs 50,000 when compared with its manual counterparts. In other news, Renault will also launch a turbo-variant of the Duster which is expected to make as much as 156 PS. It will come with an optional CVT gearbox.
Kia Seltos
Engine - 1.5 Petrol, 1.4L Turbo Petrol and 1.5L Diesel
Power - 113 bhp and 144 Nm, 140 bhp and 242 Nm, 113 bhp and 250 Nm
Prices - Rs 9.89 lakh - Rs 17.34 lakh
Kia made its debut with the Seltos and no doubt it is one of the most selling mid-size SUV of 2019. The SUV gained its popularity due to the variable engine options and multiple transmissions. It also comes with features up to the brim and uses the same platform as the new-gen Creta.
Hyundai Creta
Engine - 1.5L Petrol, 1.4L Turbo Petrol and 1.5L Diesel
Power - 113 bhp and 144 Nm, 140 bhp and 242 Nm,
Prices - Rs 9.99 lakh - Rs 17.2 lakh
Although Hyundai Creta shares its engines with the Kia Seltos, the ARAI certified mileage is higher for Creta. Also, the Creta packs in additional features over the Seltos like paddle shifter, panoramic sunroof, remote start for the manual trims, electronic parking brake, one-touch cruise control and among others.
MG Hector
Engine - 1.5L Petrol, 1.5L Petrol-Hybrid, 2.0L Diesel
Power - 141 bhp and 250 Nm, 141 bhp and 250 Nm, 168 bhp and 350 Nm
Prices - Rs 12.74 lakh - Rs 17.73 lakh
Given its sheer size, it sure as looks a full-fledged SUV but it is not. On the inside, it packs in 5-seating configuration and is segregated into the mid-size SUV segment when it comes to pricing. It comes with smart features and internet connectivity. The only drawback is the non-availability of physical buttons in the centre console and lack of an automatic transmission in the diesel engine.
Mahindra XUV500
Engine - 2.2L Diesel
Power - 153 bhp and 360 Nm
Prices - Rs 13.2 lakh - Rs 17.7 lakh
The XUV500 has started showing its age with the lethargic 2.2L diesel engine and lack of modern features. However, to our surprise, it still remains one of the better-selling SUVs because of its availability of those extra 2 seats at the last row which makes it a 7-seater SUV. The BS6 prices were recently updated and sadly, the AWD model is pulled off from the line-up.
Tata Harrier
Engine - 2.0L Diesel
Power - 170 bhp and 350 Nm
Prices - Rs 13.69 lakh - Rs 20.25 lakh
The 2020 Auto Expo was bling for the Tata Motors as they showcased various products including the new Harrier. Packed in with new features, attractive alloy wheels, a large panoramic sunroof, punchier diesel motor and the availability of an options 6-speed automatic gearbox. It makes Harrier an all-rounder, however, it does get pricier than before and the non-availability of an AWD system even in the top-spec trim makes it harder to choose with its competitor.

Jeep Compass
Engine - 1.4L Petrol and 2.0L Diesel
Power - 160 bhp and 250 Nm, 170 bhp and 350 Nm
Prices - Rs 16.49 lakh - Rs 24.99 lakh
Also called as the tank, this baby Jeep packs in a good 1.4L turbo petrol and a punchy 2.0L diesel motor. It was one of the best selling of its time until Tata Harrier arrived followed by MG Hector and then Kia Seltos. This mid-size SUV drives well but is often taken aback due to less number of features and an expensive automatic diesel unit.
