Citroen Basalt: The Coupe SUV Makes Its Way
The Citroen Basalt almost mimics the Citroen C3 Aircross but with certain tweaks and twists of its own. While it certainly shares some resemblance, you get revised chrome elements and a repositioned headlamp unit. This may also be the foundation for the upcoming C3 Aircross facelift soon.
Walking to its rear section, you get a sloping coupe-styled roofline merging into the back of the car. If you notice, the quarter glass takes the hit for a more sporty profile, which is a nice touch. You get squared-off tail lamps with a muscular tailgate with a silver finished skid plate at the bottom.
The side profile takes the typical Coupe SUV formation with a sharp and solid bodyline. Square-shaped cladding coupled with stylish alloy wheels adds to the overall aesthetic appeal. Not only this, the Basalat will come with an advanced feature list, something that has been missed with the previous Citroen models. Expect features like automatic climate control, front-ventilated seats, 360-degree camera, cruise control, and even ADAS could make its way, which is now becoming a new norm.

Powertrain
It is highly likely to borrow the mechanics from the C3 Aircross. It is expected to come with the same 1.2-litre petrol engine that puts out 109 bhp and 205Nm of peak torque. It comes paired with a 6-speed manual or a torque converter automatic.
At its launch, it is likely to be priced at around Rs. 12-15 lakhs ex-showroom. While it will be going up against the upcoming Tata Curvv coupe SUV, it will also rub shoulders with the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, and other compact SUVs.
Verdict
While the Tata Curvv is yet to come out of curtains, Citroen got this in the bag. It beat the Tata rival in the offcial unveil race, but is that all. As both the vehicles hit showroom soon, they will carve out a new segment in the SUV space, where this form factor enters an affordable space.
