Skoda India's Director for sales, service and marketing, in his recent tweet, has confirmed that the next-gen Skoda Rapid will not be launched in the Indian market. The Rapid, which was introduced in the Indian market almost a decade ago will be replaced with a larger sedan which will be based on the MQB A0 IN platform. This new sedan may also be sold alongside the current Rapid. Read on to find more details.
It is no secret to anyone that VW and Skoda are developing a number of new products on the highly localised MQB A0 IN platform. This platform will be underpinning a number of compact and mid-size vehicles which will be launched in the Indian market in the next two years. Responding to a tweet, Mr Zac Hollis confirmed that the next-gen Skoda Rapid will not be launched in the Indian market. Instead, the brand will launch a bigger sedan in the second of 2021 in the Indian market.

The upcoming vehicle will have a design language which will be India-specific and will also show a heavy resembles the Skoda's latest design language which was seen in the upcoming Vision IN. Once launched, the brand's new sedan will rival against cars like the fifth-gen Honda City and the Hyundai Verna. In addition to this, the brand will also be launching the new Octavia and the Kodiaq SUV in 2021. Both these vehicles will be brought to India via the CKD (completely knocked down units) route.
The new sedan is expected to be powered by a 1.0-L TSI turbocharged petrol engine. The car may also feature the brand's more powerful 1.5-L TSI engine which can be had with both, a manual as well as an automatic gearbox. The new Skoda sedan will be bigger and more powerful than the current Skoda Rapid.
