- 2024 Mahindra XUV500 spotted for the first time
- To rival Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos
- Coupe styled SUV stance revealed
Mahindra moved forward with introducing the Mahindra XUV700 as the new-gen successor to the revered XUV500. While the shift was monumental, the XUV500 moniker had an irrevocable loyal fanbase. When asked about the fate of the XUV500 tag name, the brand confirmed that the cut was temporary and it would return at a later date. And that timeline isn't too far away as the first sightings of the same are out.
Let's see what the stir is all about.
New Mahindra XUV500 Returns- Should Creta, Seltos Be Worried?
Now, the new 2024 Mahindra XUV500 is spotted for the first time in testing, and wait for it, to be positioned as a Hyundai Creta rival. Yes, Mahindra is going after the South Korean marquee, and what better than a household name already?
While the name returns, it does so with a twist. While the new XUV500 will be based on the XUV300 platform, it will be a compact 5-seater SUV that takes on the Hyundai Creta and the Kia Seltos. The first-ever spy shots reveal a sloping coupe-style roof lining and an SUV stance, giving it a more trendy coupe SUV look. This, in fact, imparts a fresh design language in this price range and the segment. The launch is set for 2024, as Mahindra already conveyed that there were no new launches in 2023.

While the previous XUV500 was available in a 7-seater layout, the number this time is limited to just 5.
Powertrain
Coming to the mechanicals, it is most likely coming with the same engine as the XUV300. However, it will be re-tuned for higher power and torque figures. The current engine options with the XUV300 include 1.2-liter turbo petrol and 1.5-liter diesel. But since this is an all-new vehicle with a different target segment, the 2.2 L diesel and 2.0 L petrol of the XUV500 will not be here for the task.
Price And Rivals
Pricing is where the XUV500 will break barriers with an aggressive retail tag. As the XUV300 platform-based SUV, it could land at a price range of Rs. 11-18 lakhs ex-showroom. With this, it will rub shoulders with the segment giants Hyundai Creta and the Kia Seltos. Also, to carve out a space for itself, Maruti Grand Vitara/Toyota Hyryder, Volkswagen Taigun, and Skoda Kushaq are standing in the way as well.
Verdict
The household name Mahindra XUV500 should ring some bells in the segment. After dominating the segment earlier, it sets foot in the currently steaming segment. With the expected design, price range, along with a simple yet monumental name tag, making its place will not be a difficult feat. However, it still needs to prove its mettle as the segment is pretty unforgiving in its present conditions.
