Force Gurkha 5-Door - New Design Details
As visible in the spy pics, the test mule has a new front design. The round headlights are replaced with long rectangular ones. Also, the bumper has been revised. Both, the headlights and bumper, look similar to the Citiline MUV. Mind you, the Citiline was launched recently in India. However, the rest of the SUV looks unaltered. The front two-slat grille, snorkel, alloy wheels, & rear design are all similar to the Gurkha 3-Door. Other major changes are on the inside. The transfer case has been replaced by a 4WD knob. Also, there is a new unique seating layout for 7 passengers. We've seen the Gurkha 5-Door test mules with multiple seating options. This latest test car adds to those previously spied versions list.
On the engine front, it is supposed to be powered by the same 2.6-lt turbo-diesel engine as seen on the 3-Door version. This Mercedes-sourced engine produces 85 bhp of peak power & 230 Nm of peak torque. This power is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. We anticipate that a similar engine will be seen on the 5-Door version. However, it shall be re-tuned to accommodate the bigger size and increased kerb weight of the SUV. The rest of the model will remain similar to the 3-Door version. The interior design elements like the dashboard and the steering wheel are also sourced from the previous test mules.
Verdict
The Gurkha 5-Door was supposed to launch in India by now. However, the launch of Jimny pushed the launch of it. Also, Mahindra Thar 5-Door is still under development and it'll launch early next year. Hence, Force is trying to alter the Gurkha 5-Door to remain relevant in the segment and offer more practicality. We suspect that the new 5-Door will debut by the end of 2023 in India. Its expected price is Rs 15 lakh onwards.
